In my opinion, include EVERYTHING. This is honestly my favorite project on your channel, mainly because of the technical part. The more, the better, even if it might seem boring.

Back in the day I did this sort of tinkering but the modern electronics side of things is crazy. My best frankenstein project was putting an M16 "Tickford" turbo engine into a late Rover 820 turbo Vitesse. That presented all sorts of challenges where the flywheel had to be swapped out to keep the Immobiliser happy, the inlet cam had to be swapped over as it drives the distributor and the exhaust manifold had to be modded to accept the "Tickford" turbo, plus a load of other minor bits and bobs. Massive amount of trial and error that produced a car with 20 less standard HP, but the M16 Tickford was good for 280 bhp with very little modification. I ran it at 240 BHP and it was a beast of an 820.

Great job Dean. Most people avoid anything to do with the electrics but as long as you approach the changes in a logical fashion, starting with a thorough understanding of both systems, then it becomes so much easier and your chances of success are that much greater.
@DanielHillman8 ай бұрын
I think that you going into the detail about the changing of the pins was great solved a mystery for me atleast, other guys say on there videos how hard and boring wiring is but dont explain why and what they are actually doing, i think making it sound much harder than it maybe, your litle diagram and explanation was perfect explaining how you would re-purpose the RS3 ECU and just stick the Skoda plug into the RS3 ECU but just need to swap some pins so the Skoda interior computer can talk to the RS3 ECU...im not explaining it all that well....but it would be awesome if you keep sharing what pins you have needed to swap out....doesnt need to be everything, pin for pin but would be good to know what you really needed to do to solve some of teh bigger issues, as you go! such a great serious like you said at the start everyone else has done the RS3 to Golf so really cool that your trying something different, hope it all truns out well in the end! I also hear the RS3 diff internals are much stronger so hope your planning on swapping that out as well, and also saw a post somewhere that was showing someone trying to swap a Daza into a Golf maybe and said its easier to just swap out the fuel pump / carrier system form the RS3 instead of trying to re-wire the skoda's to suit in your case.

When finished, this will literally be the ideal car/wagon! Powerful, fuel efficient and spacious. Oh, and great looking. Kinda makes me miss my old vRS Octavia estate. Now I’ve a b9 RS4 Avant 2.9 but reckon I’d actually prefer Deans 2.5 vRS3 Octavia. Top work fella 👌

Spot on Dean. This is exactly what I was hoping this video would be. I love content like this, methodically working through a problem. Even though the two engines are both from the VAG stable, I was curious about how much was common or easily adaptable. You answered that for me.
@ambitiousautos10648 ай бұрын
this is definitely the right kind of stuff to include bud, it just goes to show what exactly is involved these days, in the old days you could basically just get another engine banged in and a few slight modifications, and away you go, but in this day and age, there's just so many tiny differences that ends up makeing a huge amount of more work, 👍👍

@stephendutton37668 ай бұрын
It looks like you are providing the perfect level of detail. It is very interesting and gives clues at least to thr sorts of problems and fault finding you are having to work through, obviously the fact these are an engine which is fairly modern and a fairly modern skoda body/car are making this both easier and more difficult. Easier in the sense you have been able to find useful documentation but more difficult in that there are so many pins/cables, etc. It looks really cool though and the moments of elation are palpable!!

Honestly full of respect for you Dean. Not a easy challenge at all. You have more patience than me! Enjoyed that you had a more technical element to this vlog. I’d happily watch 2 hours of that. I was interested in how the cables were terminated (later saw they were lugged), when you are confident of solid termination into the connector, what you do if the wire is short (later saw it stretched to its new location) etc. How many colours of wire are there in a car like this? Is there only 1 blue wire in the entire car or is there only one blue wire in any given loom? Love this project.
