I use these tips all of the time when I'm grooming my steers. I have a lineback steer as well as an angus cross and by using these tips my steers look amazing

It is good to start early and practice. If you clip them out a month before, you can go back over them later on. This will allow you to fix any mistakes.

There are lot of great breeds of cattle out there, obviously Angus is our preference. Contact breed associations, your neighbors or county agents, they can help you determine which direction you should take. Good luck this year!

The memories, a trick my dad once taught me for the was. In a line up of 10 to 12 steers. Try to be lead steer or end steer. Then when there all lined up facing the seats, back my steer up so when judge is at other end of line up. And looks at the rear end view of the steers all the judge see's is my steer.

@Bilbybalfany to keep them from bloating, slowly raise the amount of grain your giving him and free feed his alfalfa of grass hay :) sometimes that doesnt always wokrk though cuz my steer this year bloated..... if you just keep a good eye on them all the time you shouldnt have that problem :)))

@amaysingproductions Charlai. Be carefull they are very fidgety animals. and if you are showing them they are quite small. I showed one once. She was pretty small but a really good calf. :)

@2blondebombshell I clip mine 2 or 3 days before. Its easier to work with. If you get it done to early you might find that you have to clip some spots that grow in fast on the day of the show.

@horsegurlnpa2 If you are standing nose to tail bring the the left leg forward a little bit. If you are standing side by side keep the two back legs even (square).

what do i do if my calf had a nice strait back and now he has a big dip in his back what happend and how do i fix it?P.S. how do i keep him from bloating????

If he's a steer use the show stick and grab his sheeth (where he pees out of) the calf will raise his back and then will look good. If its a heifer and she has a belly button do the same thing.
