did you plane that drawer before or after glueup? I can't imagine how your technique there would work with the 4th side of the drawer in there.

That’s a nice beefy plane looks a little small to be a jack plane manufacturer and size? I prefer a low angle plane for end grain myself like he was doing for the drawer faces and like to cut the tails or recessed potion of the dovetail to be the part that needs planed down or preferably sanded with Random orbital sander to flush
