I am curious to know how the design for the Tally Ho came to be? I also am wondering what was used for glue and other adhesives when the boat was originally built? When Leo first purchased the Tally Ho were the original bronze knees still in the boat or did they not use them, or had they been scrapped out?
@frederickstibbert7389 Жыл бұрын
The boat was designed in 1909 by Albert Strange & built by Stow & Son for Charles Hellyer, who owned a fishing fleet. Originally named Betty, she was a luxury yacht for offshore cruising & fishing. Glue was not used in her construction. The original floors & knees were wrought iron, not bronze. Although they were in fairly good condition & could possibly have been re-used after their bearing surfaces were ground to fit, Leo did not want to use any ferrous metal in the boat - it causes "iron sickness" that degrades wood.

Another method of indicating high spots on those bronze floors needing to be taken down would be to slip a 8" X 2" strip of medium sand paper between the rib and bronze floor, sand paper facing the bronze. Then pull the sand paper back and forth to put abrasion marks on the high spots of the bronze. Then you grind down the high spots. That approach seems it might be more effective and faster than using a metal ruler and marking the opposite side. I hope the suggestion isn't to late. Best wishes.
