Thank you for the video. My caravan has the Al-Ko ATC system fitted as standard but I didn't know exactly how it worked and what the noise meant when connecting up. :)

Apparently ALKO head office in Southam don't fit on site anymore. Only ATC approved service centres. Of the 3 I called in the North unless I bought ny caravan from them they are not taking new work on. The dealer I used does not fit......snookered! .....great video though

thanks. just a remark: at the end of the video it's visible the safety cable just left around the towel pipe - this is really not a good choice - it should be fixed to a dedicated hook (usually it is below the car or welded on the towel pipe itself). Cheers

Bosch's trailer stability control is much more sophisticated than this - the AL-KO system doesn't even brake individual wheels.

Atc stands for automatic trailer control but I nicknamed it always terrific caravans 😂

I notice that your caravan is not fitted with shock absorbers - this is the most important feature you should have done to avoid the problem of pitching that is a contributing problem with snaking since if any pitch is present it could allow the nose to elevate above the centreline and you have negative load on the nose. The principle of applying both trailer brakes at the extreme of a sway is wrong since it applies a force at an angle to the tow vehicle and this releases the stored energy that is built up in the over run spring thus adding to the velocity (Kinetic energy) of the return sway multiplied by the partial brake impulse action. Be very careful on the way home, if you get along side a long artic and the bow wave kicks you into a snake the ATC will activate and prevent you passing the truck meanwhile the bow wave will keep your snake going and you could end up slamming your van into the side of the truck - see Google images for a video of this event.

Your emergency break cable should not be just looped around the ball hitch

If there is no other option that's what you do.

@@Richytbiscuit That is how accidents happen! If there is not a lug to attach the cable then the tow bar has not been fitted correctly. An examiner will fail you for putting it around the ball hitch
