Fitting the Barkbusters handguards to my Honda CB500X

Handguards. You need them. Barkbusters makes some tough ones, with an aluminium backbone that will protect your hands and levers in case of a fall.
They also protect your hands against the rain and the cold winter air. Very nice.
These are more expensive than a lot of the competition, but are very strong.
In this video I demonstrate how to install them on the Honda CB500X and I give some first impressions after riding a hundred kilometers with them.

On the clutch side you need the 20mm extension on the inner rod to allow more room for the clutch lever. That way you won't have to slant the handguard down to allow clearance.

Excellent video on the barkbuster install. The 2022 reguires a spacer and longer bolt. Also need to split the throttle module to get to the clips on the OEM weights. Great job thanks for your help!

Merci pour la vidéo. Après avoir péter 2 leviers d’embrayage (25€ x2) et un levier de frein (70€ !) sur des chutes bêtes à l’arrêt j’ai décidé de les acheter. C’est gagnant à coup sur au long terme ! Installez les avant de casser des leviers, vous économiserez de l’argent :)

C'est le prix de l'expérience :) C'est pour ça que j'ajoute des pare-mains à toutes mes motos, parce qu'il n'y a rien de pire que de ne plus pouvoir rentrer chez soi parce qu'on a cassé le levier d'embrayage sur un chemin au milieu de nulle part.

Thank you for the video. I’ve been thinking about getting one of these bikes what kind of windscreen is that?.You could’ve should’ve would’ve put in some hundred percent silicone from the caulking gun in the handlebars I did that to an old 70s bike it makes a heck of a difference

The windscreen is an extended aftermarket one from Puig, I have à video talking about it ;) I didn't have any extra silicone but I'll think about it if I ever take it apart one day !

No, they are not touching any part of the bike, if they are adjusted properly.

Thanks for the video, Jérôme. I have a 2022 CB500X with the same Puig screen than yours. I'm thinking on getting the Barkbusters handguards. Does the metal part of the handguards touch the Puig screen when you lock the handlebar? Also, did you consider VPS instead of Storm? I doubt between both... Merci!

Hi Jose, for me, the only part of the handguard that touches the bike is the left side on the fuel tank, but that can easily be adjusted. It does not touch the windscreen even when I fully steer the handlebar. For the plastic part of the handguard, I think that the VPS is fine, I just preferred the Storm because it seemed to cover a bit more area, which protects my hands a little bit more. I think both are good so I'd say, go with whichever you prefer 😉

It is the straight version. It works pretty well I would say, but I don't know if the curved version is better or not. It would be interesting to compare the two !

I ordered the tapered ones for my 2023 model from Fortnine. The latest design is a bit different, specifically where it attaches to the clamps. Went on reasonably easy. Thanks again for the video.

Bonjour, oui il suffit de déserrer un peu l'assemblage du comodo pour le relever un tout petit peu. Ça laisse assez de place pour passer la partie métallique des protège-mains sans qu'elle touche le réservoir. C'est facile à faire et ça prend 5 minutes tout au plus 😉

No, when it's adjusted properly, it does not touch the screen nor the tank.

Not at all, because the bar weights that we remove are "replaced" by the added weight of the handguards themselves, so no real difference can be felt.

Ok you make life too difficult for yourself. Simply leave the inner weights inside and go get a M6 60 countersunk screw to fit the stock inner weight. Then using the new screw, the guard and the weight and single spacer the job is done in 1 minute. Don't over think this simple installation.
