The best bit of kit I bought for my 1250 GS Exclusive and easy to fit. While on the NN site i bought the Wunderlich centre stand protection plate Cymarc Radiator protectors and for extra protection. All easy to fit for a novice like myself.

I made a rear splashguard like this but out of a sheet of rubber diaphragm for my bikes back in the day and attached them with velcro. Though it was mainly for protecting the rear shock from gravel and debris, not mud. This looks way cleaner. Love your videos, Nick!

Nice, simple video showing how easy it is to fit both of these accessories. Nicely done. I have both on my 2009 R1200 GS and I will be installing new ones on my "19 1250.

I used mudsling on last 3 GS bikes and they do protect the shock etc. Getting my 1250 on a week or so and I won't be fitting on. I found that the mudsling actually throws the road crap out onto the rest of the rear of the bike. I'm a road only rider so I'm fitting a hugger. They keep the crap closer to the tyre and throw it back onto road. It'll keep the shock protected as well as a mudsling. The front extension works very well.

Great video and thanks for sharing. I bought mine on eBay last week for £31.96 including postage for both. I just don't understand how the big brands can charge so much for a bit of moulded plastic. I only had to wait a few days for delivery and they fit perfectly. Thanks again

There is good and bad to be had from eBay. Plastic mouldings are normally a safe bet but a friend bought spotlights and they filled with water very quickly. So caveat emptor 👍🏻

I had these fitted as part of the deal with the bike, however I agree with you that this should be a "standard" factory fit?? Didn't BMW start the "add on options" decades ago with their cars??!! I'm slowly working through your vlogs and I must say they very comprehensive......thanks Nick!

Thanks for showing that. My 1250 GSA will be arriving later this month so I'm checking out extra goodies to add to it. Now I've seen this I'll be getting the set. It does amaze me that BMW didn't sort that out though.

Staggering to be honest but it's a good set and start with it will protect the bike for sure. Hope you didn't view it too early as KZbin was taking forever to update it to 4K. It was playing at 360p for hours! Enjoy the GSA and ride safe

@@nickhodgeUK no it looked fine to me. I've saved the Nippy Norman site. I'm guessing that's the best place to get the cansmart & Denali D4 & soundbomb from too? I'm also going to get the led lights that go on the hand guards.
@nickhodgeUK
@nickhodgeUK 5 жыл бұрын
Nightcrawler777 shop around for the lights. I got the horn, cansmart and brackets from NN but remember with the D4s you only need single lights, not kits as the Cansmart has all the wiring you need. That can save you £50-75!! I got my D4s on EBay from a Best Offer. Think the bike shop was in Swansea. You buy them singly, not as a pair

Thanks for the video Nick. Just one question: are the ties used to secure the rear MudSling protection not going to damage the frame paint? That's my only fear... What do you think? Thanks

Hi Eric. I had it in my old GS for nearly 2 years and it came off without marks no worries. If you’re concerned though a quick wrap of black insulation tape would be fine. After all it not under any real strain at all. Just holding it in position 👍🏻

Personally I don't think that BMW missed the point on mud protection as this is an allroad bike and it is possible to ride it through rough terrain. In the mud and sand you don't need huggers and fenders because these will clog up and effectually block the wheels from turning. Then again this is an allroad bike and if you only ride it on fixed roads then you can have the choise to increase protection with the mudslinger, It's just a matter of choice.
@nickhodgeUK
@nickhodgeUK 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe on the front one but although clearances on the Mudsling are small if you don’t have it the shock absorber gets the full covering of everything. I get there’s design patents and such but it’s such a small moulding 👍🏻

Hello Nick, I know it's been a while since you uploaded this video, and you've now changed bikes, but did the mudsling fix the problem of you getting your legs wet and caked in mud? Thanks!

I'd be lying if I said I knew as with lockdown my riding in wet/mud (normally when on weekend or week long tours) has been limited this year. I am however away next wee in the UK that may make up my mind! Interestingly I have my mudsling and my mate (with a GS) has a hugger so we may be able to compare. Sorry not more certain

From the set I have just received, the MudSling is propperly installed and had just a liitle space on the left and more space on the right side, however after a few rides on the left side it touches the tire slightly. As it is used now, I cannot return it. Are there more people who have experienced this?

What tyres do you have? There is a list of tyres that will rub. Also have you standard height and stuff? Just taken mine off to change bike and mines fine with Bridgestone Battlax Adventure Tyres

Patrick Buitenhuis no all that seems OK. Appears suspension has no effect. I get that from here www.nippynormans.com/machineart/bodywork/machineart-mudsling-r1200gs-lc-2013-on-2017-on-r1200-adv-lc-2014-on-2018-on-r1250gsadventure It’s tough to know then but so long as you have the mudsling engine side of the little blade mudguard on the swinging arm and the blade of the lowest part of the top fender fully engaged in the mudsling slot I can’t see how it can be wrong?? Possible, but unlikely a duff moulding unless warped by heat maybe. Clearances are tight as you see from the list but shouldn’t touch. Good luck

@@nickhodgeUK Yeah it's really strange. I will get it off and then fit/install it again by first fasten the cable ties on the left side and see if that differs in result. Thanx for your swift reactions! 😉

Mr. Hodges, BMW is very guilty of trying to cut corners when it comes to fenders. This is the answer to that problem, although I would love to see a full fender option as well. They put them on their bikes in the 50s, 60s, 70s 80s. Trying to shortcut production costs is probably their motive, but the problem is VERY OBVIOUS IN THEIR R/18. Their new "Cruiser." It makes a great bike look cheap if you want my opinion. BMW R&D needs to step up to the plate, and put fenders back on it. Anything else is a waste of Great Bike Character.
