Fitting Union Flag Lights to my Mini Roadster - Black or Red ?! [CarVid19 Daily VLOG]

I always felt I needed to do something with the tail lights of my Mini R59 JCW Roadster to complete the look. So I have decided to match the lights on my JCW Clubman and fit Union Flag tail lights.

Learned something today re Union Flag vs Union Jack. To my eye the red looks OEM while the black clearly looks "aftermarket". Both look good, and jealous of your weather. Stay safe!

Red is surprisingly nice but I too would go for the black. A very worthwhile mod. How refreshing to hear it referred to as the Union flag. Many people seem unaware that it's only called a 'jack' when flown from a ship. I have an early R50 Mini Cooper and it's a shame no one makes an aftermarket union flag for this model.

I learnt the same as you regarding the Union Flag at school, scouts etc. As for the lights.... wow! cracking units. As you have fitted both, I think I would have gone for Red units though as I thought they looked a little more OEM and complimented the red elements of the car.

Normaly I would say smoked, because I myself have wrapped the tail lights of my R50 with a smoke wrap, but Ruby's look can take both...the red one's give it a chique look, the smoke one's are more sporty/agressive..difficult too choose in this case which is the best i'm afraid... Btw super instruction video again...very helpfull 😉👍👍

It’s the smoked ones for me Peter especially when they’re lit up. Union Flag vs Jack ? Definitely the Flag mate. I was a Royal Navy Cadet way back in my teens - blimey that was a very long time ago !! I think someone mentioned the OBD code app further down that you can download to reset the warning light. Nice job 👍

They both look very smart. Like others have said you'd think the black ones would better suit your car but there's something about the red ones that slightly edge it for me . Whichever you go for they're a definate improvement on the OEM ones.

D I Y Light fitting Pete, Like the back ones because the indicator lights are not so noticeable on the red ones, as the brake lights are the same or similar and other motorists may not notice them as easily. Years ago one of the VW Golf headlights were the same and the lights overpowered the indicators so you didn`t see them easily. Mini rearlights fitted before you changed them seemed odd till I figured that the round chrome bits had orange bulbs in the silly me I thought they were the reversing light till I saw them below.

In the latest version the brake light strip at the base is a lot thinner, thus giving more room for the flag design. Also they are LCI and Non LCI controllable via a lead. No warning light for me.
