I used a trick that boat builders and carpenters use as well, its called a Ticking stick! but that should be fine for a Side By Side windshield, have to admit though my Son, you'd never say it was homemade, looks like it was manufactured for the Side by Side, if you aske me. you did a Great job. by's

Long vid but an awesome job, Tony. I can only imagine how many hours you have into that. It was definitely worth the effort, though. Only thing I noticed is that the wiper hangs a bit low in the passenger's view when stopped. Not a big deal but maybe you can get it to park vertically in the middle where neither seat has it in their line of sight when not in use. Either that or make a "quick attach" wiper arm and put it on only when you need it. That might be a challenge but making a windshield that folded down like in the old Army Jeeps would be cool, too. You'd have to scrap the wiper idea or come up with something that mounted on the bottom, maybe. I know you would figure it out, regardless. Had to laugh when you were fitting the wiper mount and said "don't be lying, don't tell lies, Tony".I laughed right out loud. Thanks again for the awesome opportunity to see you doing what you love and are unbelievably good at! Take care.

You should invest in a 4ft box and pan brake. So much faster and easier then a hammer. Also here in the western US. We leave the bottom open to let air flow through the cab. Otherwise you get a vortex of air circling around and back in the sides. In dusty areas like dunes and such it helps a ton to keep the dust off the passengers.

Nice work and a detailed explanation of how you made the frame. Good work on the video editing, showing just enough of the progress without repeating things. Are you in Canada or Northern USA? I noticed your sheet metal brake that looks like you made it yourself. I was hoping for a video on it, but there isn't one. I know you work mostly with sheet metal in your videos, but it would be good if you could make some videos to show how you make some of your own tools. I've only recently found your channel and subscribes, so I have a lot more of your videos to watch as time permits. I've picked up quite a few useful tips so far. When you do the bottom sheet for the window, you could put a block of wood on the hood with a marker on top of the block, as you move the block along the hood following the shapes on the hood the marker automatically traces the shape onto the sheet, try it with some scrape shit until you get the hang of it, keep the block vertical, see how you go

@@fitzeesfabrications the bottom pan is called the oil pan here .and the one for the timing is called the timing cover . It's funny how parts are called different names everywhere in the world. But even are military calls things different names then what the factory does here . Like here we call the part that goes between the ignition power and the Distributor that's white and has 2 male spades on it we call a Ballest Resistor and the military calls ir a drop down power box. And yes it drops power but if you try to order one by calling it a drop down power box the parts house will Laugh at you and I now because I had to prove it so I called and got laughed at.

Fitzee - I have a suggestion, I don't think you know the marker trick for copying an irregular contour shape, like you did at the bottom of the windshield to match the hood. Once you have your sheet of steel as close as you can get it until it bumps into the farthest protrusion (as you did), you do something different. Instead of marking and measuring and the connecting dots.... just take a piece of steel (or plastic, edge of a cheap dollarstore ruler), just like you did to measure the same distance up... and just hold your marker right there. If it's 2" up the material, just pin in there with yoru fingers. Drag the piece and the marker square, along the whole edge of the surface you're trying to copy as you go up and down and around the bumps. It will trace the outline of that edge perfectly without needing to carefully measure or mark or connect. It's 20x as fast. If you've got a plasma cutter, you don't even need a marker, you can hold your torch tip there instead of the marker and drag that instead. The only trick is to make sure you're holding your steel/plastic piece at the same angle the whole way, if you start going diagonally or whatnot, then you won't be consistently 2" above the contour. Does that make sense or am I explaining poorly?
@fitzeesfabrications4 жыл бұрын
Makes perfect sense. Problem i have with that is if you lean the ruler to the left or the right just a little it will throw off the line. I used that to make straight lines on sheetmetal and as for plasma cutter. Think you burn up all the plastic on the side by side with the spray. But all great tips. I love hearing different ways to do the same job. I'm always wanting to learn different ways. Thanks for the tips and watching.
@MattsAwesomeStuff4 жыл бұрын
@@fitzeesfabrications - In my limited experience, it's never an issue to tip the ruler. At least, not to the degree that I'm fabricating. Wouldn't do it on a jewelry box. Plasma cutter, yeah, in this situation no good. You've taught me a lot and I'm going to be putting it to use on my first car restoration. I've been welding the interior (will be hidden by carpet), but now I've got a couple wheelwells to patch and your advice in the past gives me hope that I can do it myself. Thanks a bunch.
