I am always hesitant when someone want's to talk about their " Fighting Philosophy", so I held off on this video. Long story short though, I think you nailed it in my opinion John. Being aware of your surroundings, avoiding a confrontation if you can, and knowing that there is no such thing as a " Fair fight ". The only reason I am sucking air today is because of two things- shitloads of luck and a ton of dirty tricks. I can't throw a punch worth a damn and I sure as hell will never square off with someone and expect to " duke it out" with my damn fists. I am no " badass ". I cheat, I play dirty as all hell, so I am still here. Be prepared, be aware, be nasty. It's worked for me anyway. Mainly though, stay safe guys. and for shit sake don't start shit with the little guy. He could be a crazy bastard like me.

I never lost a fight either. The only lesson you need is: be fast or be dead.

I agree completely. Sometimes i think about how we have been conditioned to believe that defending yourself means waiting for someone else to strike first, but inn reality that is a recipe for disaster. if you are genuinely threatened then you should do whatever you have to to protect yourself. great video

In a lot of states if you stab someone who's just trying to fight you you'll get arrested. It's wrong but it's true. So if you don't want to be arrested and you don't use those weapons and your goal in to take that person down , now you have ten weapons on your belt to worry about. I'm in law enforcement and I carry a gun, mags, radio,flashlight,cuffs I don't want four types of weapons for someone to grab and use against me.

I've been interested in getting training in unarmed security, and I share that sentiment. I honestly don't trust myself with a firearm, not because I would be tempted to use it necessarily, but because I have Tourette's Syndrome and part of that makes certain (usually loud) noises cause me to twitch, gun fire potentially being one of them that I would care to avoid. I don't have much in the way of weapons training, and I only really have ever been comfortable defending myself when bare-handed because that's what I'm trained in so far and it's what I know I can use responsibly. I can honestly say I still don't know what to entirely expect as a security officer, and I have so much I want and need to learn, but I also feel it's a better fit for me. Besides, the reason I want to become a security officer is because I want to be able to help others and keep them safe, and with that being the case, I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying a gun to do so. I don't intend this as a slight on law enforcement or those who are in the armed security occupation, I only mention what I feel I'm comfortable with and how I feel I would handle situations better if I weren't armed in that manner. Regardless of one's occupation, I also think people should be made more aware of what to carry or not just as much as how much force is too much, and other important factors so as to comply with the law. The way I see it, one shouldn't take with them what they don't want to lose. I used to occasionally carry a folding knife, but I soon stopped because I realized that if I ever had to pull it out to defend myself in an extreme situation, (say if multiple guys were looking to attack me as an example) there would be no turning back. On top of that, I once was attacked by someone who pulled a knife on me, and slashed up one of my knuckles before I could even get out my own blade. I got really lucky and was able to crudely disarm my attacker, knock him down, and kick the blade into a storm drain that was practically next to me on the street, and then run. I was lucky I didn't die that day. I learned that carrying a knife is incredibly dangerous as well as not the best of strategies. From then on, I only trusted in my physical capabilities from martial arts training, and luckily I never had to face a knife-wielding attacker thus far, and I hope to keep it that way. I sometimes walk with a cane due to chronic back pain,(I'm 26 surprisingly) so I'm not really capable of throwing strikes (punches, kicks, knees, elbows, etc.) and I also can't do all the grappling moves that I used to, but I'm still able to perform certain throws, takedowns, holds, chokes, etc. and I feel that (and possibly a cane if necessary should I be caught on bad pain level day) is enough for me to be able to protect myself in conjunction with being able to talk down an attacker or to just run. Anyway, sorry for the massively long ramble, but I appreciate the line of work you're in and thank you for all that you do to protect others every day. I hope that in my own way, I can do the same. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season :D

Avoid the fight until it is unavoidable. If forced to strike hit hard and stop only when the threat is stopped. The introduction of a weapon complicates things A LOT. Make sure your weapon of choice is legal for you and there is provable undeniable threat of death to others or yourself.

Very good informative video John and I agree with you 100%, never go looking for trouble. If you want trouble it'll find you. I also had a question about your belt of gear, how much does it weigh with all your equipment? Also how many times would you say you were able to walk away peacefully and the incident was resolved without anyone getting hurt?

John, great videos with lots of cool stuff, thanks. You are prepared for a confrontation with another human, but what would you do if you are suddenly attacked by an animal, say, a mean BIG and STRONG Pitbull suddenly charges against you ? How would you defend ? With your knife ? with your gun ? ASP Baton ?

Oi, good advice. I knew a fellow who told me that as soon as the antagonist finished saying "I'm gonna kick your ass" as "ass" was ending being said, he'd deck the bad guy. He said, "why wait for him to hit me?" I don't know if that is the best advice, but I guess it is fairly strategic. But, I'll add, the same guy said if the guy is white with rage, he is dangerous, if he is red, then he is more in the state of not really wanting to fight, yet.

You guys should get mic's that you can wear while doing these videos. It's kinda hard to hear just with the mic on the camera with the equipment in the background.
@stevekinslow10 жыл бұрын
If a few more guys would let the ads play I might be able to afford some microphones! Seriously, the shop is loud but we gotta shoot when John is ready to talk, there is a little off camera mic that you can see off to the right side which helps a LOT. The camera mic is completely unusable!

No one can possibly win every fight if you've been in a lot. There is always someone tougher and if you win every fight it's probably because your a bully and choosing to fight weak people who you can beat. No real fighter wins every fight

My drunk buddie's drunk brother thought it would be funny to try and tackle me when he was wasted. He was talking shit I was trying to calm the little fucker down who was about 65 pounds lighter then me. He lunged at me I did a single leg takedown put him in a pretzel and he shut the fuck up the rest of the night. You want to avoid conflict at all costs. Sometimes you can't...Wrestling someone who comes at you first has a lower probability of jail time then punching.
