I get that there other alternatives and they all might be great, but for me, part of the appeal of armada was that it was Star Wars and there is something incredibly satisfying about running an imperial star destroyer

Personally I'm getting a 3d printer and buying conversion kits. Me and my kid love x wing we bought it thinking it was a board game and have several ships. When I told her they where stopping production she was devastated so I looked into alternatives. Here's what I say if Disney won't make my star wars mini ship game I'll do it myself just for her even if I have to paint and trouble shoot the ships myself. He'll if I can I may sell the ideas we come up with cause there are some cool ships and factions we never got.

Under your advice my group had found our "Sweet" spot, and the week before the cancelation of Armada, we bulk ordered through our LGS, just stuff we wanted. Hammerheads, Thrawn's ship, card upgrade packs, dial packs, tourney kit, one of us got a SSD on the order, another original Core Starter set. Things like that to flush out some players collections and to have a few extra dice, maneuver tool etc. Suddenly its all out of stock, everything on Amazon is gone, it all quadrupled in price before being removed and in many cases, not even searchable. I'll let you know if that order we placed actually arrives. The LGS we use has basically never failed to deliver anything we've ordered in the past. So I'm hopeful.

Dropfleet Commander is a ton of fun. There's actually a reason for fighting (dropping troops), and it feels like a much more complete fleet game, where you will field a lot of cruisers, frigates, destroyers, etc. Instead of a fleet of like 3 ships. Love the shooting mechanic of having signature radiuses and spiking, which has a lot of tactical play especially with dedicated spotters.

Star Fleet Battles is a great starship skirmish game, a proven wargame w/no stinking cards. Emphasis on the geometry of firing arcs, simultaneous movement and slow graceful lumbering movement of large ships. It’s been around since 1977 and isn’t going away anytime soon. Fed Commander is a good streamlined derivative based on the same principles. Sorry, no preprinted mini’s but there is a line of mini’s that can be acquired and painted. Often times, the game engine is so good we forego the window dressing of mini’s to get to the real fun, deep, tactical gameplay.

The local club just got into Dropfleet Commander at an opportune time, it turns out, as the new edition is on the way. The models are really nice and quite easy to put together (compared to, say, GW nightmare kits with 20+ pieces for a single man size model) unless you want to magnetize, in which case the difficulty spikes hard. And as Crabbok says, easy to paint. It lacks Armada's fantastic shoot first, then move, system (which really underlines slow, lumbering capital ships) but has a lot of very fun rules, including the basic targeting system, where weapon range is based on how much "noise" the opposing ships made its last activation. If a battleship really went to town, firing all its weapons and launching all its fighter craft, gunning its engines to the max or manouvering hard, it lights up like an energy christmas tree and you can shoot it from a long way away. And it is an actual fleet game. Even my relatively small 999 point battlefleet consists of almost twenty ships of varying sizes (fighter screen not included), including utility ships that scan for enemy ships to paint them, point defense frigates and athmosphere hunters - because most of the game's scenarios are based around landing troops on space stations or planets from dedicated dropship carriers to win. We're also big into Warmachine, and several people play GW games, but if you're trying to get away from the hazards of corporate game giants the last is probably not for you :D

Star Trek into the unknown sounds interesting. To me x-wing and Armada suffered because all they were about was combat. They lacked interesting g and various mission scenarios and the total focus on one type of theme led directly to the highly competitive meta that killed the games.

Do they have a "clearing-house" type of page? Ebay is kind of absurd right now. Thanks for the insight.
@Scuzzlebutt1423 ай бұрын
Depending on how their licensing works, they may not be allowed to sell the remaining stock. Their license from Disney for the game may give them leave to sell that game for as long as they keep paying, and the renewal for those games may have just come up, it was not cost effective from their view to renew, so they lost it, and can't sell those items any more. What does make this a dick move is not telling us, they could have had a "lets get rid of the remaining stock sale", and let some people pick up what they needed in their lat run.
