Around 47:40 you could have targeted the Arcanist with Redcap Melee instead of the Swiftspear and gone to 1, keeping the ability to copy Goldspan. Weirdly, with the opponent playing an extra blocker, the fact that you drew Magda would have been relevant, as you would have ended up with exactly 5 treasures and needed to tutor up Atarka to remove the blocker.

Temple of the dragon queen seems awful if the only off color cards are dragons. More secluded courtyards and/or the Ixalan one seem better if dragons are the only non-ref cards

What does temple help cast in this deck that secluded courtyard wouldn't? Two courtyards could be a dromoka one turn and a silumgar the next, all without the risk of entering tapped.

Dragon queen can still cast early red spells which is really important, unclaimed territory and courtyard as a 2 land hand is way worse than temple and courtyard.

I think having a couple Thunder Break Regents would be good as a bridge to goldspan and others cause it’s a 4 cost and if they target it they get domed which changes racing situations

Hey Seth, as someone who plays dragons in Pioneer I'm confused as to why you wouldn't be playing 3 mana Sarkhan or Orb of Dragonkind?

Hey! I'm the original builder of the deck. This was a first draft, so it now looks alot different, but the main problem with orb is that you can't cast removal off of the mana. Alot of the deck isnt actually dragons, so orb is really awkward. I am actually trying out sarkhan again now, but the general idea was the same. The "experiment" was to only run ramp that could be used for other utility as to not be clunky.

Yeah as rabbitz said, orb was pretty hype when it came out but ultimately it isn't very strong, especially outside of standard. We have plenty of better fixing in lands (especially tribal ones) in pioneer, and orb is also a target for removal like portable hole and prismary command. Orb is probably best in commander or brawl where it's a 2-drop mana rock with payoff if you draw it late game, but it's not fast enough for 4-of in pioneer

At 40:30 it is absolutely correct to swing with magda and dragons fire at instant speed into stomp when they go to protect the virtuoso, no clue why you constantly forget Magda is your ramp card this entire video honestly, especially cutting her in matchups that if you get to 6 mana you basically auto win.

Same match later you literally blocked a creature with trample with your lethal threat when you 100% had to cast the redcap anyways, ending with 5 life instead of 3 against a deck with no reach, costing you the match in both games.

Re: the "mulligan bug" conspiracy theory, here's how to think about it: I can't count the number of times I've seen you keep a 7 card hand and say something like "This hand is fine, we don't really want CARDNAME in our opening hand, but I think it's still a keep", and then T1 you draw a second CARDNAME. And all the jokes about "okay, we drew CARDNAME tron, we might be able to cast them _eventually_..." It's really the same thing, if you think about it, you just didn't tuck the card. The Magic gods screw us over all the time, don't invent modo conspiracy theories for what is clearly just supernatural intervention :D

The main upside of Temple of the Dragon Queen is that it helps us cast our non-Dragon spells, since we already have Haven of the Spirit Dragon (which is basically an Unclaimed Territory with upside for Dragons) playing Unclaimed Territory too might leave us with too many lands that only make colored mana for Dragons.

@@MTGGoldfish but it's a mono red deck! the green or blue mana that temple makes can't be used to cast your other non dragon spells, and if you put the land on red then you're gonna struggle to cast your non-red dragons. land bases are always hard though.
