Hi Greg, great lesson-nailed the explanation on Jazz arpeggios, clear, precise, and actually what bassists need to know. Although not in the Jazz genre, “Ain’t to proud to beg” (The Temptations) played on bass by the late great James Jamerson, plays a brilliant example on the C arpeggio, the opening bar C E G F A C. However, playing arpeggios to standard Jazz tunes really helps getting to navigate the fretboard using, as you say ‘shapes’ know the shapes and know the fretboard. Top notch lesson. Take care keep Groovin’ Bryn

I like it, great suggestion and it’s given me an idea to make a lesson of arpeggios in classic bass lines of all styles!

Way Cool Brother G - Sounds Very Musical As Exercise - I Finally Noticed That These Also Carry A Blues Style Of Sound As Well But Never Would Have Put Those Together Before This Tutorial - I Also Appreciate The Mid Fret Board Compared To Those First Few Frets - Thanx Man Another Gem For Sure, Cheers

Cheers. Yeah the flat 7th's and all the intervals in fact make up the basis of Blues bass lines. Glad you enjoy this one!

One minor issue though - sometimes the subtitles obscure the fretboard .

Pretty sure you select subtitles your end? So I’m sure you can turn them off.

I do not know if it is just a lack of experience but these arpeggios are really frustrating me lol. I understand the concept of building the arpeggios along with flattening or sharpening a 3,5 or 7. I think it is my lack of knowing the notes on the fret-board to get the proper fingering. Would you suggest any tools or practices that will build the skills necessary to get fluent with this? Seems like this is a challenge that is going to be very very frustrating to the point that when it finally clicks it will be so simple. Im just not there yet lol.

I would suggest starting with a dominant 7th arpeggio, like C7 for example and then change one note to go to Cm7 and do the same for Cmaj7. Once these three shapes are under your fingers, introduce the other two.

Apologies but I can't concentrate on the lesson as I'm totally focused on the bass. Is that a Gibson EB2.... Modern equivalent. They were beautiful guitars and I had one to try but i have no idea why didn't keep it. The time I had a Vox AC 50 1or 2 Vox Foundation cabinets with 18 ins speakers. Much as I liked a bassy bass (pre Chris Squire and Lemmy arrived on the scene) this setup was just too bassy resulting in a pressure wave and notes. On the brightside nobody would have noticed my mistakes 🤔😥🤔

Truthfully I prefer the sunburst Style that Chas Chandler played and I'm not sure it was an Epiphone but it really makes no difference

So this is a 'Jack Casady Signature' model by Epiphone but it is modelled on the 70's Gibson bass. I love it. It is a lot more versatile than it looks and very good value for money.
