My all time favorite book is The Heart’s Desire by Gayle Wilson. The Duke of Avon was born with a crippled leg. His father tells him this deformity runs in his mother’s family and is cruelly abusive to him. England is at war with Napoleon, and there is a traitor working in the War Department. Since Avon can’t fight for his country on the battlefield, he works undercover trying to identify the traitor. The head of the war department has a son convalescing at home from a war wound who can help Avon, and he has a beautiful daughter. Avon has sworn to never marry or have children, but Emily has other plans. It’s one of the best romances, but it’s really old.
