Honorable mention fun fact, like Money Game, Squeeze Play began its life on the stage, then was moved to the turntable.
@MyGuyJustinH2 жыл бұрын
Yes it did, also during decades week on The Price is Right during the 1970s episode they played Squeeze Play on stage & they also changed the color of the game back to blue & its been blue ever since

And later, had the bottom opening covered and, of course, you know what happens.

For years, I thought the squeeze part was mechanical until Drew started getting the stagehand to wave or would talk to the person.
@erikdraven17312 жыл бұрын
When it first came out it was mechanical, but like a few other games (Cliff Hangers, Ten Chances), breakdowns soon changed it. An easy way to tell is to look at the bottom of the set. If it is open, the game was still running mechanically. Once they went to a manual squeeze, they covered so as NOT to see the stagehand's lower portions.

Here is an honorable mention. “Squeeze Play” was featured in the home version of “The Price Is Right” board game from 1986 made by MB/Hasbro. The object is to put all of the number tiles in place and a player removes one of the numbers and the card reveals the price, just like the way it did on the show.

I like that Drew gets the stagehand to wave @ the audience & the viewers @ home. I don't think it takes away the magic from the game @ all IMO

I just LOVE it when he does! It adds a comical moment to the game! By the way, I feel the TOTAL opposite when he doesn’t! I’m sure that you can figure it out!

I loved it when Bob kicked at the game.

"I AM GONNA KICK THAT THING!!" - Bob Barker

Both Bob and Drew have said all along that a stagehand manually squeezes the remaining numbers together. I don't mind when a stagehand is shown. Another GT game show, Match Game (70s version), at times showed Earl during the first phase of Super Match.

So sad to remember what the CBS daytime schedule was when Price premiered vs. what it is now. 1972-5 was probably the best daytime lineup ever for all three networks. Price struggled when it was on in the afternoon against Top 5 soaps Another World and General Hospital. I have an article from Broadcasting magazine in 1973 where Price had a 7.2 rating/26 share, compared with 9.8/33 for AW and 9.6/31 for GH - the soaps also had much more desirable demographics.

Lots of societal changes since those days. I think cable news along with streaming services, have really had a huge effect on daytime ratings.

Not to mention TPIR had to rely on its next door neighbor, Match Game, for survival as it was the #1 daytime game show at the time (and it would stay that way until 1978).

@@msxvideo You're welcome (YOU KNOW THEY SAY ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. BUT YOU LOOK AT ME AND YOU LOOK AT SOMOA JOE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE! SEE NORMALLY IF YOU GO 1 ON 1 WITH ANOTHER WRESTLER YOU GOT A 50/50 CHANCE OF WINNING! BUT I'M A GENETIC FREAK AND I'M NOT NORMAL! SO YOU GOT A 25% AT BEST AT BEAT ME! AND THEN YOU ADD KURT ANGLE TO THE MIX, YOU THE CHANCES OF WINNING DRASTIC GO DOWN! SEE THE 3 WAY AT SACRIFICE YOU GOT A 33 1/3 CHANCE OF WINNING. BUT I, I GOT A 66 2/3 CHANCE OF WINNING CAUSE KURT ANGLE KNOWS HE CAN'T BEAT ME AND HE'S NOT EVEN GONNA TRY! SO SOMOA JOE YOU TAKE YOUR 33 1/3 CHANCE MINUS MY 25% CHANCE AND YOU GOT 8 1/3 CHANCE OF WINNING AT SACRIFICE. BUT THEN YOU TAKE MY 75% CHANCE OF WINNING IF WE WAS TO GO 1 ON 1 AND THEN ADD 66 2/3 %. I GOT A 141 2/3 CHANCE OF WINNING AT SACRIFICE! SENIOR JOE? THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE AND THEY SPELL DISASTER FOR YOU AT SACRIFICE!)

I like the sound fx for squeeze play it's a good one. 😀👍

Another (not-so) fun fact about SQUEEZE PLAY on TPIR is that the host (Bob or Drew), and NOT the contestant, has gotten to remove the unwanted digit. Sometimes the contestant will move towards the row of digits in an attempt to remove the desired digit herself/himself only to have had Bob or Drew tell that person, "I'LL take it out. You just TELL me which digit." I see absolutely NOTHING WRONG with the contestants taking the unwanted digit out themselves. It would stimulate contestant involvement in SQUEEZE PLAY more than ever. Just sayin'.

I don't know if anyone has seen the April Fools' Day episode recently but I don't know if I ever been so PISSED at a game show before, besides Wheel Of Fortune of course. For one thing, they did play Squeeze Play as the sixth and final game and every thing you mention as part of fact #2 is exactly how I feel. For the record, the female stagehand came out dressed in black and wearing a mustache. What f***in' Price Is Right is this? Even Bob Barker wouldn't allow this to happen! If Drew Carey wants to keep the show going, he should knock it off and forbid any stagehands to appear on Squeeze Play or better yet, tresspass that lesbian. Play it the way Bob Barker would, please.

Pick A Number was a far better game, like Squeeze Play but without the sound effects and unexpected malfunctions.
