Rhuarcaran they need to stop lumping carbs exclusively with processed foods!! Quinoa, sweet potatoes, and brown rice are not the same in the slightest! I will never take advice from these guys because the doctor on far right suggested bacon and eggs for breakfasts as “healthy” while a veggie wrap is bad? 🙄😾😾😾😾

Wraps can be healthy!! No mayo...and get oil free wraps. Even if the wrap is 210 calories...if that's your meal then not a problem! Veggies are low in calories. My wrap is 340 calories but that's my entire lunch :) most eat stuff on top of it. I also don't eat meat or cheese ..so no to that on my wrap.

Your body doesn't care about whether calories are healthy or not when it comes to losing or storing fat. "Healthy" calories have the exact same effect as the same amount of "unhealthy" calories when it comes to weight gain\loss. Now in other aspects of health like cholesterol levels etc. healthy and unhealthy sources are important. In weight loss though.... nope. You can lose weight eating only "unhealthy" foods as long as you eat less calories than your body burns in a day. Similarly, you WILL gain weight even if you only eat Healthy foods if you eat more calories than your body burns.

G. A. So on a standard American diet I ate 1800 calories and couldn't lose weight! Dr cut me to 1500. I was eating a balance diet with veg, fruit, lean meats, etc...nothing worked. I'd lose 5lbs here and there but with high BP, cholesterol, t2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, I had a rough go at it. I switched to a whole foods plant based diet and it saved my life. I didn't cout calories, I just ate when I wanted and how much. I continued my daily walk but didn't increase my activity level. Within 3 months I was off all my meds except for thyroid. No longer diabetic, no high BP, and cholesterol all normal again! I lost 25lbs! Dr had me track my food intake over the next month and I was eating 2200-2600 calories a day! Within that year I lost a total of 75lbs(my goal had been 40lbs to get me back to my before babies weight). For the 1st time in my life I am healthy and at a perfect weight for my height( I was always on the higher end of ideal weight). I am off all meds!! My thyroid is even fuctioning normal without meds! I eat more than I ever have, which is amazing because I love food!!

Where calories come from doesn't affect weight but can affect other aspects of health, cholesterol for example.

+Cal ChuchestaⓋ You clearly know nothing about physiology. Meat is completely harmless to you, even those that are red, which contain even more nutrition. Saturated fats were also proven to be harmless years ago, and they actually improve your LDL pattern (so that your LDL becomes harmless), increase testosterone level, help with hormone growth, absorb fat-soluble vitamins, and make you satiated. The only harmful fats include the trans fat and omega-6 fats contained in all processed vegetable oils. However, none of those would have anything to do with your insulin so I don't know where you got that information from lol.

+misslilila actually B12 comes from bacteria in the soil. Animals get it from drinking untreated water from lakes and ponds and from consuming dirt along with their food. When humans adopted a modern diet, B12 deficiencies became a problem and so animals where fed B12 enriched feed so that we could get more B12 from their meat. But animal products are not the natural go to sources for B12. Its kind of like how we put flouride in toothpaste or iodine in table salt, to combat prevalend deficiencies within certain populations. So you have three options regarding b12: eat dirt and drink pond water; feed B12 supplements to poor, mistreated animals, thereby destroying the environment and then consuming their flesh to get some of the B12 they ate and then suffering adverse effects yourself, or you could just pop a b12 pill. (I chose number 3).

+DESA JOHO Are you sure? Even the WHO says that processed meats are cancer causing and that red meats are very likely to cause cancer as well. The hormones in meat and dairy elevate testosterone, which then leads to prostate cancer. Interestingly, vegans have higher testosterone on avarage then both vegetarians and meat eaters, but still lower risk of prostate cancer. Estrogen in dairy increases the risk of breast cancer. Dary consumption and ance as well as other skin problems have also been linked. Meat and dairy both contain IGF-1, a growth hormone that leads to too much cell growth and division in humans, thus causing cancers and helping to grow and spread existing cancers. Due to the slower digestion of meat, up to 12% of meat consumed can end up in the large intestine to purtify there, which causes discomfort, gas, and colon cancer. The calcium in dairy does not appear to have a positive effect on bone density. Population consuming dairy actually have higher risks of hip fractures than those who don't (which may be linked to the galactose found in milk). All animal products contain high amounts of saturated fats. Animal products are also the only source of dietary colesterol. Saturated fats and colesterol lead to hardening and clogging of human arteries, which causes heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death in the USA. Despite an obivously flawed study promoted by the American Egg Board that claims that colesterol from animal sources have no affect on our blood stream, it is the scientific consensus that saturated fats and colesterol should make up a very small part of the human diet, if not eliminating it all together. Plant foods are generally lower in calories, high in fiber (which most americans are appallingly defficient in and which is not found in animals foods at all) and way more nutrient dense than animal foods. Populations that naturally eat a whole foods plant based diet, like rural chinese, many rural africans, the okinawans and many south american tribes are reported to have the lowest rates of cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes in the world, while populations ike the inuit or the massai, which traditionally consume animal based diets, have much higher rates. Go on nutritionfacts. org to find out more :) (site is independent, non profit)Also from a common sense point of view, the promotion of high fat high protein diets has a lot to do with big money coming from countless animal product industires. When reading studies, always check the acknowledgements, to check for sponsorship. Studies can easily be manipulated and scientists can expect a lot of pay if they comply with a lobby's request of what a study's conclusion shall be. A low carb diet is also easy to promote and generate profit with. These diets come with rapid weight loss. However, they almost always involve calorie restriction and restriction of healthy foods like whole grains and fruit, leading to nutrient deficiencies. The weight lost is mostly water weight and the diets are never sustainable, as lifelong calorie restriction is simply not possible for anyone to stick too. Ketosis and gluconeogenisis are last resort mechanisms that the body uses to survive during a famine, so they are very unhealthy to put you body through intentionally. People then go off diets, binge on junk foods, jojo, put on more body fat than before, blame it on themselves and go on the next diet. That is why there are so many of these, like atkins, the zone, keto, paleo etc. On the other hand, there is not really a "vegan lobby" or any profit made from the promotion of veganism, which is mostly done by independent activists and non profit organisations. Fruit and vegetable producers get a pathetic 0,37% of government subsidies in the US, while meat and dairy subsidies make up for 73%, so you know who is having more incluence and money for campaigning. Producers of crops get more subsidies than fruit and vegetable produces, but crops are many soy and corn fed to livestock, so these industries have no interest in promoting veganism either, as it is bad news for them. The vegan advice is easy: Eat healthy foods in abundance, avoid foods that cause disease. Automatically save the animals and the planet as you go :)

I don't like how they called the foods bad because they "have just as many calories as THIS unhealthy food." It's not about the calories, it's the QUALITY of the calories. Plus, many people seem to ignore the fact that one tablespoon of ANY kind of oil (even olive oil) is 120 calories. But it's not that it's 120 calories, it's that there are practically no nutrients in oil! They're nutrient depleted. If you're gonna focus on the calories, at LEAST expose some REAL culprits, like olive oil.
@mario54671
@mario54671 9 жыл бұрын
Grace B What you said is irrelevant because you're comparing one oil to another. I have no doubt that olive and coconut oils are better than other oils, but that isn't saying much. *ALL* oils contain 120 calories of pure fat. Oils contain NO fiber, and the fat is absorbed rapidly into your bloodstream and is stored as fat within minutes. Ripping the fat out of a food and leaving all the good stuff behind hardly even makes it a food. You want the *WHOLE* food, not just the fat from it. I'd rather have the entire olive, not olive oil. Or the coconut itself, not just the pure oil. Oils are processed foods. I'm sure what you said about coconut oil is true about the whole coconut itself… except you're absorbing the fat from the coconut *ALONG* with the fiber and other phytonutrients the coconut contains. Your body was not meant to consume the pure oil itself without any of the fibers. Mediterranean people got away with olive oil because they were constantly active throughout the day and ate lots of green vegetables, fruits, starches, and seeds. Sure they might've had some fish and olive oil, but of course, people interpret that the wrong way and go, "Oh! The Mediterranean diet is healthy because of all the fish and olive oil! I'll just have a piece of salmon and pour olive oil on my Big Mac! Mediterranean diet right here!" If you're trying to lose weight and stay healthy, oils should be used sparingly, or not at all. Oil's only good if you're underweight and in desperate need to put on a few pounds.
@mario54671
@mario54671 9 жыл бұрын
And, are you currently at a healthy weight? I mean, in my case, I can use anecdotal evidence that carbohydrates from fruits, vegetables, and all starches *HELPED* me lose weight while I eliminated almost all oils, eliminated almost all animal products, and included a bit of seeds into my diet. I'm now at an ideal weight and have been for well over a year. On top of that, I've been sprinkling a bit of brown sugar all over my oatmeals, eating lots of whole wheat bread and pasta. Very high-carb diet. No, sugar isn't a health food, but carbs are not the main issue. Humans have eaten natural high-carbohydrate diets for thousands of years. The title is completely misleading. These foods are not healthy at all. That is why they are making you fat. Who would have ever thought Pretzels, Flour Wraps, Bread and Chips were healthy in the first place? They sound so surprised in the video, is that how deluded Americans are? Please, tell me what kind of nutrients you think you are getting out of refined flour foods. It''s literally nothing but refined carbohydrates and sugar, which quickly make you put on fat and contain practically no nutrients for your health and for your body to function normally. Eat your Vegetables, Fruit, Legumes, Beans and Nuts, Lean Meats and Fish. There is nothing more you need, accept treating yourself on special occasions. Is that so hard? There is so much variety in each of these categories, that you could never be bored of restricting yourself to these categories. They incorporate a vast majority of all food. Only recently has artificial products been invented like sweets, pastry and breads etc... Health is more important than loosing weight, and a healthy diet means a great amount of Vitamins, Minerals, Fibre, lean Proteins and unrefined Carbohydrates, with smaller amounts of natural Sugars and healthy Fats. You have to understand that your body works like a machine. It requires a certain amount of fuel to function, that we call calories, but also importantly, it requires certain types of fuels to work properly, we call nutrients. How do you think you are going to achieve this by eating something which contains nothing more than refined carbohydrates? If it is high in calories, and contains hardly any nutrients, don't eat it! Protein = Eat lean meats, fish, legumes, beans, eggs and dark greens like spinach. Unrefined Carbohydrate = Eat Fruit, Vegetables, beans, legumes and nuts. Natural Sugars = Fruit again. Healthy fats = Vegetable Oil, Coconut oil and coconuts, eggs, lean meat and fish. Vitamins and Minerals = All the food already listed are rich in this as well. Notice how the same types of foods come up in multiple categories? That's because they are healthy. Nutritionally rich. Eat them and you are accomplishing almost all your criteria in one. It's really simple, actually. You don't have to revise hard to make sure you are getting adequate nutrition. ...oh and they are generally low in calories, so you will actually loose weight to if you stick to it, and do some moderate exercise. You really don't need to exercise intensely and to starve yourself to loose weight. It's just eating the right foods, being active with your life. Be good to your body! This is common sense here. If you didn't already know this because of the shitty education system nowadays, i hope people can learn from this.

You're on the right track, as it's not just about calories, but I would NOT consider any kind of oil a "healthy fat." Most people eat too frequently and don't burn their fat stores because they eat like 2-3 hours apart, rather than eating when they're TRULY hungry. They burn through the glycogen, and THEN they get to their fat stores, and THEN they get truly hungry. Most people eat too frequently (or snack in between) and break the cycle, so they start back from the beginning and start burning glycogen again. Oils store as fat within minutes (yes, even canola and olive oil). Most people aren't very active… so how can one expect people to burn off any of this fat? It goes from the lips to the hips, literally. Plus, whether it's "Extra Virgin" olive oil… it's still oil, and it's still processed. ALL oils have 120 calories per TABLESPOON. And that's 120 calories of pure fat, because oils are just the fats extracted from different foods. Olive oil is the fat form olives, sesame oil is the fat from sesame seeds, etc. Nuts and seeds have the healthy fats, but they're also whole foods. They contain the full compliment of micronutrients ALONG with the fat. And one does not absorb the fat from these foods within minutes, it takes hours. Olive oil is processed, and most of the nutrition from the original olive was almost all but lost. All oils are practically nutrient-depleted, and while olive oil may have some nutrients, you can get all of those in greater amounts from leafy greens with far fewer calories. Protein is hardly a concern for people who live in developed countries. People, if anything, are consuming too much protein, especially animal protein which promotes weight gain and a growth hormone called IGF-1, which promotes the growth of several cancers. Sure, protein makes your muscles grow… but it makes you as a person grow faster, too… meaning you age quicker. Beans/legums, nuts, seeds, broccoli, leafy greens… all of these foods have all the protein and all of the essential and non-essential amino-acids, so there is no need for animal products at all. Plus, animal products don't contain antioxidants or phytochemicals, so they're no better than slices of bread. (Though, you CAN consume some animal products without raising the IGF-1 hormone. Though, the animal products need to be the naturally-raised hormone-free animals, and no red meat. And one must be cautious with fish, as many of them include mercury) The trick is just to eat all the foods with the highest amount of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals), which just so happen to be fruits, vegetables, beans/legums, nuts/seeds. You focus on the right nutrients, you don't overeat, so you just naturally create a calorie deficit and you end up dropping a shit ton of weight.

***** I suppose my comment was based on my own personal diet, and is not necessarily the most accurate for someone who wants to lose weight. I obviously wasn't promoting the excess use of Oils, but Oils from Plant sources are Polyunsaturated Fats which reduce blood Cholesterol, so it is hardly bad for you, just calorific. The reason i included it was because i am already a healthy weight, and i regularly go to the Gym or run, so calorie intake for me is perhaps significantly higher than for people aiming to lose weight for the summer! I find Eggs and Oil to be great sources of Protein and poly unsaturated fats to keep my calories up and give me the adequate fat and protein i need after exercise. I'm not saying i eat these items in most meals either, just occasionally. My diet is still indeed a majority Vegetables, followed by smaller amounts of Fruits and Potatoes, lean Meats and Eggs. The quantities of such nutrients obviously depend on your weight, lifestyle and goals, and so i can see why people who want to "diet" to lose weight shouldn't be eating a lot of fats and protein, and should focus on higher quantities of Vegetables.

Yeah, but the benefits from oil of plant-based sources are much better… when eating the plant sources they're actually from, not from oil. I will admit, I have some myself. I eat lots of healthy fats from walnuts and chia/flax seeds and avocados. I'm not very concerned about protein or any other macronutrient because unless one lives in Africa or has some sort of odd disorder that doesn't allow them to digest protein, people really don't need to worry about getting "enough" macronutrients. Our diets are roughly the same, though I hardly ever eat potatoes (usually I eat beans/rice with some steamed greens), and I'll have slices of lean turkey/chicken in a salad or eggs sometimes in the morning.

N.V. t0_x-in everyone needs carbs, complex carbs is what everyone should take on a daily basic. And eating bread doesn’t make you what they call fat. People avoiding carbs are excluding a food group needed for your body to function. Items with complex can be are like sweet potatoes, broccoli, strawberries etc. BMR is just the amount of calories one burns in a day. Factors also play like their tolerance, genes, and BMI. :)

This advice is crap. Mayo and meat is healthy, but OMG, you can't have a 200cal wrap -.- This calorie restriction and low carb dieting is straving people's brains and bodies, then setting them up for a diet and binge cycle, feeling horrible and developing eating disorders. I really feel for those people eating salad all day for years and still constantly gaining weight, it must be so frustrating. I'm just so glad veganism is on the rise and people like Dr. Michael Greger are helping people find the path to true health and happiness. I love how youtube has changed and that you can see in this comment section that people are not having this bullshit anymore. Taking advice from bought out TV doctors who didn't even get much nutritional training at university is so last season ;) Or lets say burried in the past for good!

People treat “calories” like a dirty word but not all calories are created equal. The calories (energy) from trail mix, along with the nutrients, will be more beneficial than a slice of cake with its refined sugar; likewise a wrap with veggies and lean meat is definitely healthier than sugary, processed waffles. If the average person is allowed between 1000-2000 calories a day, a 210 calorie wrap and a 300 calorie baggie of trail mix are nothing, especially if you eat them on a long walk or hike.

INFORM yourself before you try to jab at them, watch Forks over knives on Netflix.. it talks about the most comprehensive and largest nutritional research ever conducted in the world ¨the china study¨ and it follows some of the top doctors in America and surgeons explain why eating fruits and vegetables reverse heart disease among other chronic diseases and it follows a group of people who are put on the diet so you could see the benefits they gained by going vegan and how it took away their health problems.

+Hasan Nehmeh how can It be that the people consuming more fatty animals are the ones shown to have more health problems?.. and you are rejecting my argument but all I see is you telling me there are errors in the story and not explaining why.. this doesn't all of a sudden make you correct. I have a million videos/creditable websites I can send you about meats and diary directly causing cancers and of course let us not forget that the World Health Organization officially published that processed meats are class 1 carcinogen just like smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol.. it's people like you so set on your ways that blind people from the truth. I also thought that as well, and I do believe that sure, if youre careful with your diet as a meat eater and eat at least 70% veggies and the rest starches and a low percentage of meat then you could show to be healthy, but ones diet should never be centered on animal products.
