Madeline was a favourite when I was a toddler. Little house in the prairie series I used to read to my grama before bed, I was also named after the author. Harry potty was the first series of books that opened the door to me loving reading as I had had bad experiences with reading because of dyslexia the first 3 or 4 years of school. I always enjoyed the Franklin books when I was a toddler as well.

Just wanted to add that FIAR is great for up to 8 years old, not 3-5 as you mentioned, that might have been a mistake! :)
@BethPavlik3 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right, it is great up to higher ages! In this video I was speaking specifically about the level of FIAR that I was using at the time. There are different levels for different ages. 😊

I looked at their website I don’t see the option where u purchase all the books. I see the list of books but not the books I’ll purchase
@BethPavlik2 жыл бұрын
You don’t purchase the books from them. They have the bundle lists through Amazon or through Christianbook.com

First time hearing of this. I’m so nervous to start homeschooling but I know I need to. Is this the only curriculum you use? Thanks for the video!
@BethPavlik2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jess! Why do you *need* to homeschool? I’d love to hear your reason why. No, this is not the only curriculum I use. I have four kids in grades 6th down to my preschooler and we use a variety of curriculum and resources. This is just an example of one curriculum resource you could use with your kids if you like literature-based learning. If you’re nervous about homeschooling, you would love my membership. It’s for brand new homeschoolers! We meet virtually each week, read homeschooling books, and share our journeys with each other. @@BethPavlik first semester of 3rd grade we did virtual. School has been a huge challenge since then. He is wrapping up first semester of 4th grade. I’ve reached out to his teachers more times than I can count to know what they’re learning and how I can help. I didn’t get much out of them at all, just that he needs to apply himself and be more industrious. Not helpful. I love the fact that in homeschooling he could take his time on things he finds difficult or speed past what he understands easily. I hate the “one size fits all” public school system. And also a classmate tried fighting him in the restroom. It’s all a mess.
@BethPavlik2 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that does sound like a mess. :( I think that homeschooling him will be a great fit for you!

I bought this but I’m struggling with the planning portion. Maybe I’m over complicating it 😬
@BethPavlik4 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to help out. What part of the planning are you struggling with? I like that the manual guides you to do something different for every day that you read the book. I would definitely keep it simple, though. A lot of the time, I read the book with my child and ask them observation questions like, "how many ducks do you see in this picture?" "Can you find something blue on this page?" "What do you think will happen next?" And then the manual does a good job helping you do activities that correlate with the stories, like when you read Blueberries for Sal and they recommend classifying objects around your house or doing simple math like adding up blueberries or studying a real blueberry bush. You don't have to follow their directions exactly in the manual. Their goal is to read good stories with your kids and be intentional about how you present it to them and study all of the different elements of the stories. Does that help?

Definitely interested in the model but isn’t it Christian based? Do you use that portion of the curriculum?
@BethPavlik3 жыл бұрын
Great question! This is a direct quote from their website: “We are Christians and so you’ll find that the stories we’ve chosen and the academic lessons suggested in the teacher’s manuals come from a Christian worldview. But you won’t find specific Bible teaching unless you purchase the FIAR Christian character and Bible study supplement that goes along with the stories you will be reading.” For me personally, I have just read the books with my kids, looked at the suggestions that they have in the teacher’s manual, and chosen to use them or not. It has never seemed extremely Christian based and you don’t have to use it that way. I hope that helps. :)

@@BethPavlik yes I did see that one their website and you’re right, use what I want and leave the rest. I was just thrown when I downloaded the free Goodnight Mood manual and saw the “Bible” section.

Except the owners are rude and insist that if it doesn't work for you and your family, then something is wrong with you. It is pointed out that over 200k families can't be wrong. Again, it's you not them. They've also taken to censoring commenters that disagree with certain stances such as book censorship.

Really? Where are you seeing this? I'm genuinely curious. Could you share a link? I've never heard anything negative about their company from anyone I know that uses their products.
