Answering your question: The animatronics are mostly aggressive to adults (who they think are all evil, like Willian Afton), and kind to children. It's both on their core programming and their characters. When the kids were murdered, they already had some conscience, and actually tried their hardest to intervene and save them, but Willian Afton, being well versed on the animatronics' technology as one of the owners of the pizzaria, was able to stop them, and use their bodies to hide the children's. Then, the first possessed animatronic, Puppet (probably with Mike's little brother, Garrett's spirit), who had the hability to give life, bonded the children's spirits to their respective animatronics, so, they would have kind of a semi-freedom by moving their bodies. The animatronics were happy to help the children inside them to take revenge against their murderer, but since they didn't know who he actually was (since he used the yellow bunny suit, more known as Spring Bonnie - after this movie, Springtrap -, and could be anyone), they started to attack all adults who would come at night, and the occasional one who would come at daytime to cause problems (like the thugs who tried to break things on the pizzaria).
