What makes the jumpscares so scary is that before that, your listening very closely for breathing sounds. Your also staring at a dark screen, therefore being so focused on the sounds and looking at a pitch black screen makes the jumpscares so much scarier. To me Fnaf 4 is the scariest in the series for that reason.
