Five of the Best Hiking Trails in the South of England

What and where are the best hiking trails and long distance footpaths in southern England? I review the hiking trails that started me on this Day Tripper journey, those I have done over the last three years. The first trail is the 153 mile Saxon Shore Way which I did from January through March 2020 from Gravesent to Hastings through Kent and East Sussex along the coast. I then completed the simular distance North Downs Way from March to June 2020 from Dover to Farnham following the route of the old Pilgrims Way in many sections. Naturally I moved on to the South Downs Way 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne and completed from June to July 2020. I then tried the very difficult South West Coast Path in August 2020 and completed the first section. Finally I walked the Thames Path 185 miles from Erith east of London to the source of the river thames in Kemble, Worcestershire. I started this in October 2020 and finished in May 2021. I hope this gives you some ideas as you make plans this year and it shows you it is possible to do these trails and still work a real job doing sections at the weekend.

Thanks for the suggestions, the middle section of the Thames Path is apparently just at my doorstep. It would be nice to have maps edited in the video when paths are introduced. I've just immigrated in the UK couple of month ago, and I'm looking forward to have some time to hike

You've completed some fine walks there Richard. I really enjoyed the SDW, which as I'm sure you know has ( I believe) a third more elevation than the West Highland Way! I've started some planning, I think bike packing for me this year. Well done on what you have achieved and I look forward to seeing your adventures.
