A warm salute from Brazil, land of the great Villa Lobos!

Villa Lobos did very much composing and living in NY. Manhattan ☘️🥀💯🌻

Excellent job by Ms. Whittingham on No. 1 - most players render it as if they have a train to catch and rush through (especially the bridge), denying the listener much of the sweetness that is in the piece.
@johnnicholson3314 Жыл бұрын
I agree. There is a delicate balance on how a piece is played. Even when Segovia was younger and had greater speed and strength in his hands he took the interpretation and balance greatly in consideration rather than over speeding parts of a piece that really didn’t need it. Listen to his interpretation of the suite Sonatina Torroba wrote and compare to others. There are three movements with the 2nd most popular amongst guitarists repertoire.

She plays at approximately the speed that Villalobos played it at... but he even takes a little more time in the middle section and played sone different notes or in a slightly different order… He might've re-edited it before it was published or Segovia might've changed a few things

Gotta say... Raphael's Performance was... so intensely emotional. Oh my God. I've never seen anyone play that piece as he has. Wow.
@johnnicholson3314 Жыл бұрын
You can see how Raphael uses that same patience as Costeff did and when needed to with precision and feeling the faster portion was superb.

I agree! Rafael took #5 to another wonderful place. Wow! And I mean past even the old school interpreters Segovia Williams Parkening etc. which so many these days don't even attempt. I frickin' loved it! Beautiful playing and feeling by all though. Lovely!

This all is excellent but I'm truly captivated by Alexandra's renditions of Villas-Lobos preludes 1 and 3. The music and the composition and feeling is excellent, to be sure, indisputably. But to see such a young and beautiful girl from England perform this with such authentic feeling, to me (a Portuguese man born in 1984) feels like solid proof we need to open up our hearts to artists from anywhere in the world. I'm so glad I was born in 1984 and the internet is here and I get to experience music performed by people from different origins it just fills my heart with joy. Cheers, Siccas Guitars for all the work you've done. You've made a mark on me :)

Beautifully performed! Prelude 1 and 4 are pieces I performed while studying classical guitar performance. Was a sonic trip down memory lane, my only critique is this for prelude 1: play each phrase as if you were singing it, find the "breathes" between each phrase and allow them time to linger, it makes the preludes have so much more emotional response from listeners, and feels more natural. It does however increase the time of the preludes. You see this with prelude 4s performance in the video.

Amazing how all 5 Villa-Lobos guitar preludes are absolutely brilliant, especially 1 and 3. Villa-Lobos once said that he lost the score for his prelude number 6 and that it was the most beautiful, I hope with all my strength to be true and to be found. And Alexandra, you are always amazing playing Villa-Lobos, I'm your fan, Sorry about my google translate english
