Five Star Stories - L.E.D. MIRAGE V.3 - Custom Chrome paint

I got this plastic kit from Volks store in Japan 1 year ago. It's very detailed but not easy to assemble especially when you plan to paint the whole kit. Most of the parts need plastic cement and a well planned schedule when to assemble which part before or after painting. In the end, it turn out to be an excellent model kit when finished. Cheers!!

Thank you. Those are gold paint🙂. I paintd most of them with 00 brush. And I used airbrush to paint the Amaterasu logo on the shins.

Thanks for the video! I believe you have straighten the model? by lifting the backside of the waist? Could you share what else you modify on this model from a straight build? Your straighter stance definitely looks better than the factory's design. Love the added pattern on the crown counterweight as well. Was it engraved or painted? Thanks!!

You overestimate me sir, but thank you 🙂. I didn't modify anything, I merely painted and removed seam line. This plastic kit look good on it's own except the colors. All the gold pattern are paint.

Thank you, I used Mr.color Gx black metal for frame parts. White over grey primer and top coat with turquoise pearl and hi gloss lacquer for armour parts. Gaianotes mirror chrome, star bright gold for the metal parts and decoration. Good luck with your Mirage.

Whats the trick to getting the gaia chrome to be so mirror like and reflective? Amazing work btw, definitely an inspiration.

The trick is to not allow chrome paint to dissolve the paint underneath when spraying. I use Black 2K urethane paint as base coat (Black Enamel also works if it is completely dry for about 3-7days depend on the weather and thickness) and when it dry, spray chrome lightly. And of course the finish surface must be super gloss before spraying chrome paint. If you wanna top coat this chrome, only waterbase acrylic can be used. It will reduce the glossiness a little but you can now use any paint on top of acrylic.

@@Delta015 Ah ok, i should let my aclad black cure maybe more than 24 hours. Should i put a gloss coat between the black and the chrome? What is your chrome topcoated with btw?

@@phoenixdthAlclad gloss black base is more than enough, pull the trigger a little more and spray it wet to reduce orange peel surface and let it dry for 3 days, no need to put any gloss coat between the chrome. I don't touch mirage much so no top coat on this chrome

I use pencil to sketch the pattern on the crown first then paint over it with 000 brush and Gaia 122 Star bright Gold. On the legs part, I use Mr. hobby masking tape and airbrush. Lastly, I use Gaia G-06br Finish Master to correct and sharpen the pattern. Hope this help.
