I have an old Whirlpool Cabrio dryer that is over 10 years old. It worked fine until last week. As in the video, the stard buttom stopped working. We did exactly as the guy said in the video, up until the wood piece. Instead we tried it with.. simple as hot glue. As of now, it works great!!!! Thank you so much for this video. I didn't have to pay a repairman or worse, a new dryer ;-)

Thanks for your wonderful video!!! You helped me dismantle the dryer control panel, which I wouldn’t have had the know how otherwise! I didn’t use your wood replacement idea, but cut a tiny square of a plastic diabetes testing strip and super glued it to the underside of the 2 little prongs of the broken piece that was still in the large piece. After it dried, I took the remainder of the broken piece and super glued it in place and then topped it off with another little plastic square! After a couple hours, I reassembled it all and Voila!!! My dryer will now turn on!!! I really think the plastic parts are very cheap for what a new dryer costs! Thanks for your informative video!! 🤓

Great job and i agree for the price a little better plastic is in order.
@juninagaki38713 жыл бұрын
A question: why did you need "another little plastic square"? As long as the clear plastic button piece and the broken-off piece are in place, you do not need an extra high to push the button on the printed circuit board?

Good fix Bronk. Thank You for your ingenuity. The matching Whirlpool Cabrio wash machine gave out twice during the warrantee period. The online forums were thick with complaints due to faulty circuit boards. The third time it failed we got rid of the Whirlpool Flagship Cabrio Washing Machine. To make matters worse, the A&E factory repair tech robbed my wife's jewelry during his visit. The bad experience really left me bitter towards planned obsolescence and Whirlpool. Fords hold up well for me, but they don't do laundry! Thanks Again Bronk!

Thanks for the info, same problem with the my whirlpool cabrio washer start button (plastic piece holding button broke, pieces looked identical to yours in the video), I used double sided tape (cut double sided tape to fit the head on the clear button) then attached button to the inside of the start button cover, instead of using super glue, I also used a piece of plexiglass, in place of using the wood paint stir stick (tired the wood paint stir stick, the wood paint stir stick I tried using was cheaply made and kept breaking every time I tried to drill or cut, I gave up and instead resorted to using the plexiglass). Cut and shaped the piece of plexiglass with a multi-function tool from Harbor Freight. Thanks for the information, put me on the right track which saved a lot of money in the end.

I tried to make a template with the broken plastic piece in place but it really needs to be further out. I made several little wooden things before it worked. Many, MANY Thanks. I lucked into finding your video after having the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Wish I could post pics to show what I did - a lot easier to 'show-and-tell' vs just 'tell' in words: On the underside of loose broken part, I Gorilla Glued a small piece of plastic the width it with enough of the plastic extending a little bit beyond the actual break area. After that dried, I put a dab of glue on the part of the plastic that was extending past the break as well as on the break itself - essentially, I had 'splint' supporting the bottom. After that dried, I glued a similar sized piece of plastic on top that bridged the break - another 'splint' on top. This solution worked fine. Hope that made sense to anyone reading this.

@BronkBuilt No worries. I used a small bit on a Dremel, then bored it out to a snug fit and glued it on. It's drying now. This was actually better fit than a circular hole. I'll let you know tomorrow how it worked. Thanks again!
@blown2211 ай бұрын
@@BronkBuilt I placed the piece in there snug, and then the circuit board (but not the white pastic cover), then tested it. It seemed like it may have barely pushed the button on the circuit board (weak click) on the first push, but then it didn't make contact from the second push onward. So I popped the circuit board back off and the piece I had fashioned was pushed out of from the two gray plastic prongs instead of being flush/level like it had originally been. So now I need to ask you a few more questions: (1) Should I retry this, but also attach the white cover and 3 screws first - would that make any difference? (2) Do I need to actually glue the button to the inside of the cover? (3) Maybe a dumb question, but how thick was the paint stirring stick you used?. My wood piece looks to be 2 or maybe 3mm thick; a little thicker than 1/8", but thinner than 3/16". It looks pretty close to yours. Thanks for your continued help on this. I really do appreciate it.

I like your ingenuity but wonder if the adhesive (glue) you used on the button plunger was really necessary. Also, was the piece of wood really necessary? Couldn't you use high strength epoxy (such as JB Weld 50132, or JB Weld 8281) to repair the original broken part? I am also curious about what diagnostic process you used to determine that the switch was the problem.
@BronkBuilt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions. I'll try and answer them all... Q: Was glue needed. A: I think so. There is empty space in that little section so the glue was needed to hold everything in place. Q: Was the piece of wood necessary? Possibly epoxy the small plastic back together? A: It would have been difficult to repair that little plastic piece, at least for me. There were two very small tabs that had broken so it would have been tough to get it back together. I just grabbed the piece of wood because it is what I saw and honestly I was not sure if it was going to work. Others have commented that they used a small piece of plastic or acrylic which is probably a better choice. Q: What was my diagnostic process? A: Honestly there was not a ton. I would press every other button on the dryer and I could feel a physical button press. Hard to explain, but I could definitely feel that I was physically clicking a button. With the start button I couldn't feel anything at all. Like there was nothing at all behind the cover. That's when I actually got a bit happy. I figured if it was simply some sort of a broken switch and not an electronic issue then I have a pretty decent chance and fixing it myself. That's when I started looking for screws to take it a part. I figured give it a shot and if I couldn't get it working, then call the repair person. Hope this helped.
@eCitizen14 жыл бұрын
@@BronkBuilt Awesome. Your diagnostics were pretty straightforward, easy, and a bit lucky. Any solution that fixes it and continues to work is certainly good enough. On another subject: I have a cheap $14 angle grinder that after a lot of heavy use, spun the gear off the gear shaft so it wouldn't spin the wheel anymore. Just to complete that project, I wrapped a piece of baling wire around the shaft and twisted it tightly with a pair of pliers to give it enough tension to spin the wheel again. I just wanted to get through another 10 minutes of grinding, but, here I am 5 years later and I've done another 100+ hours of grinding with it. That silly bailing wire fix is still holding.

Thanks for this video! Great step-by-step. I was able to repair my washer's start button by using the same broken piece and using super glue to put it back in place, but if it breaks again, I'll be trying the ol' paint stir stick trick for sure. Cheers!

It worked but could need a visual on cut the piece of wood. . Yes you do have cut a slit on the start sticker so u can able to press the button after. Also there is plug lock 🔒 on the big rotary wheel so unplug then turn counter clock wise. Thanks 👍 save me tons of money 💴

I’m having this issue and nothing seems broken. I dissembled and everything looks good. I tested the button on the panel before putting everything back together and it still does not start. Any suggestions on what it might be please 🙏🏽🥺
@BronkBuilt2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately if you are testing by clicking the button on the board and it is not starting then the board will probably need to be replaced. First I would double check all connections and test other buttons on the board. That way if those buttons work you know the connection is good. Realize I'm not a technician, just a DIY'er so I could be wrong.

What if there is haptic feedback with the button, but it still won't start? Could it have something to do with the thermal fuse? I know that probably doesn't make sense, but that's what some people were saying.
@BronkBuilt4 жыл бұрын
If you can feel the happiness feedback then it probably is not the button but I think you should still open it up and test by pressing the button directly on the board. If not, then I'm not sure. I would think the motor is a possibility but I'd think the motor would last for ever.

I have the same dryer!! Can the thermal fuse be blown and the heating elements still heat up? Mine won’t start but the start button is fine and the I see the elements heating up
@BronkBuilt6 жыл бұрын
Maybe the actual button on the circuit board is broken. You may need to get a new one.
@757mosco6 жыл бұрын
When I hit the start button, I hear a noise. Turns out the noise is the heating elements heating up. I can see them heat up since I have the back cover off. I checked the thermo fuse with a muiltimeter and got nothing, so I ordered one online for 1.95 with 4.50 shipping. I hope this works! This is an excellent video you made. I’ve had this dryer since 2005-06 and it’s been great. The matching washer crapped out about 2 years ago. Thanks for you video!!
@BronkBuilt6 жыл бұрын
Let me know if that fixes the issue, I'm interested. We've had the set since 05 or 06as well.
@757mosco6 жыл бұрын
Update: The thermal fuse arrived today and I installed it. Dryer works like a champ!! Apparently, when the thermal fuse blows, different models do different things. Some kill everything, some kill the heating elements and some kill the drum and blower motor. This model kills the drum motor but the heating element still worked. It’s only a 15 min job, but save a couple hundred bucks. I don’t think my dryer overheated to cause it to blow. I was reading that some fuses can live out there life expectancy, which I believe mine did. Thanks for the video Dale !!

@gilbertperez43912 жыл бұрын
@@BronkBuilt I ended up having the same issue, I tried the paint stick/wood and it worked a couple times and then I had to press on the back of the circuit board to make it turn on. I checked the wood and it was broke in half. I don't think my wood was the exact same shape as yours, I could see where there was a mark where the wood where it broke guessing that it hit one of the many parts sticking up/out. Plus I had to elongate my hole not quite in the right place. I was going to make another one out of wood but instead I decided to try glue and glue a piece of plastic on top of the broken part for extra strength. So far so good it's only been a couple hours, if that doesn't work I'll try the paint stick again. Not sure if yours was all electric but mine is gas. This video gave me the inspiration to try it, good job!! Thanks
@BronkBuilt2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. A piece of plastic is probably better than the paint stick.
@gilbertperez43912 жыл бұрын
@@BronkBuilt will see if it works and doesn't break break. I like the wood idea but mine wasn't quite right because it broke. I think that my paint stick looked like it was a bit thicker than yours. Again thanks for the video

If it helps someone mine wouldn't work because of spacing of the plastic piece to the circuit board. I placed a folded up receipt in the same place he put the super glue and bingo it worked perfectly. One way to tell quickly is to just place it and snap the circuit board in place and push the button if you hear a click of the button on the board you should be golden.
