This is CRAZY AWESOME!!! This video saved me last night after my daughter accidentally broke my glasses in half, the same exact place these were broken in your video. I didn't have regular acetone, but I had some "extra strength" fingernail polish remover that was 96% acetone, so I tried it. I checked after 2 minutes, but it took a bit longer. I left them in it for about 10 minutes. I was AmAzEd when I took them out and touched them together....the plastic was "mushy", and fused together quickly and perfectly!! I am going to smooth out the fusion in a few minutes and save LOTS of money not having to go next week for a new pair of glasses!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!! THANKS SO MUCH!! 😀👍

@DynamicRockers3 жыл бұрын
Forget about dipping for 2 minutes, it's wayyyy to long. The bridge will melt badly. Be careful and just apply gently a little drop on both sides of the broken part with a Qtip, then join them at the right position and hold for a minute or two, they will stick softly. Let it dry. 24/48h later, apply a little drop over the joint, let it dry again, it will smooth it out evenly. It worked incredibly well on my old Ray Ban wayfarer by B&L. It's nearly impossible to see the joint. Forget about supeglue, it's breaking after a while even without force. With acetone you fuse back the two pieces together so it's the best way to go for a long lasting repair.

Thank you!!! Everyone I spoke to told me that it's "100% impossible" to fix a broken glasses bridge and I shouldn't waste my time trying to do it. I decided to try your fix as a last resort (I've been wearing my reading glasses while I'm looking for new frames for my distance glasses) and it worked! After I let them set for 24 hours they seemed totally solid but I decided to add a coat of clear epoxy on the bridge for extra strength, and now I'm wearing my glasses again. Thanks for your video!
@het_gele_teken12 жыл бұрын
It works! Many thanks for the tutorial. I was able to stick both halves together and later using a hair dryer bend the nose bridge in shape without it snapping in half again. Note that if you have a matte frame instead of a glossy one, the parts that come in contact with the acetone will become glossy.
@jackiemartling53213 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This video saved me. Snapped the bridge of my glasses, and they were too narrow to tape. I couldn't wait 24 hours, so after the glasses set for about an hour, and put them in front of a hair dryer on low for a while, that I think sped the curing. Bought the 100% acetone at Wal Mart.
@mmbenoit Жыл бұрын
It worked for me too !! Thanks for posting!! I left it for one minute in the acetone and waited more then 24 hours before using my glasses. I use a small glass bowl in which I poor acetone, just enough to cover the bottom as the break was on the bridge few millimeter from the lens. Thankful for the warning to keep the acetone away from the lens! My own experience would add to be mindful of not pushing too hard on both sides in a case of a broken bridge as the prescription is precise on the distance of the pupils. I push a bit hard as I wanted to be sure both parts would fuse and thus it changed the bridge width and stained one eye for a couple days. Now , after a week all is good!!

I have a really small head, so I tend to bend the arms to almost a 90 angle behind my ears. One of the arms cracked a little bit at the bent angle, and this was the perfect fix to get it to fuse back together. Also, for anyone who reads the comment regarding the q-tip: be careful, because I used a cotton ball as a test run on an old pair of glasses, and the cotton fused in with the acetate, so maybe try something else other than cotton if you want to dab the acetate with acetone rather than soak it for a few seconds. Only soak it for 15 seconds and then check on it because mine melted very quickly. Great video & awesome tips. Thank you so much!!!

Oh my gosh. This works. The seam is barely recognizable. I didn't do the touch up that he did. I put the acetone on a shallow plate so I could watch it melt. You must hold it together firmly. My seam was slightly off because I held it together too tightly. But, for me, I would rather have the seam off than the pieces not bond. It is amazing that it works.

Though I give this a thumbs up for creativity and ingenuity, I must say that when working with either acetone or nail polish remover you should take safety precautions. A pair of gloves, safety glasses are minimums. Don't be sticking your fingers in acetone, even for just a few seconds. Remember, your skin is the largest organ in or on the body.
