Hi, good vid. I got 4 of the Baotian version. All of the chinese engines are actually old honda replica engines. So the engine it selfe is good mechanichly. The other stuff is so and so tho. I fugured out that the Cdi`s are slmost open for moist. If you dry it out it will normally work again. So the trick is to keep it dry:-). Use a ballone or plastic bag. Also the wiring for the votage regulator is badly isolated. Normally located behind the front shield. Again thnx for good vid:-)

My Baotian struggles to start and wont idle at first. Once running for a bit it idles ok but if turned off it struggles to start again. Changed spark plug,Ht lead, auto choke, air filter, fuel filter and still same. Am i right in thinking i need to change CDI aswell? Anyone elses sorted after changing cdi? Thanks in advance.

You might mention your 5/8" socket for the plug = a spark plug socket. I was using a regular socket, to no avail, when it occurred to me....a week later, maybe I need a specialized socket. I did. It worked.

Leave it idle to build temperature about 20 minutes and get the fuel and oil moving, maybe rev it while it's on its center stand.

@@ryanquinn2974 it's mostly always the 50cc scooter. But get 2 high performance CDI box's. They'll be orange. I would change the coil/plug wire and plug too. Make sure they're high performance. The black CDI is stock and limited.

no spark means bad cdi usually is what videos say but no , sidestand has a kill switch for electricity , dont use sidestand when testing spark in plug.

many scooters it only acts as a kill switch for the CDI and the side stand switches fail all the time, the sidestand is worthless anyway, use the center stand and get rid of it

Kasey - I own a Baolima that I am sure has the same issue. However, when turning it over yesterday to try to get it started, I let the starter run for about 60 seconds. Now I don't get anything when I depress the started button. It won't turn over at all. I checked the fuse on top of the battery and it is good. changed it anyway to make sure. Still nothing. It starts fine when you kick start it. So I am left wondering if I did something to the starter? Or what else could have happened. I am trying to get back to the point where it at least cranks. Then I'll check the CDI box and spark on the plug.

What should i do if i'm not getting gas on my finger? Fuel/vac lines are clear. I think i need to either replace the carb or clean it out. Do you know of a good tutorial for taking the carb apart? I tried spraying carb cleaner into the holes but it still didn't help.

disconnect the fuel line from the carb, and crank it over...fuel should only come out when the starter is turning the engine over or running the engine.

I was riding down the road & for some reason I drop power. I was able to kick start it & it went another 1/4 mile & it died again. When I opened it up I tried starting it again but I got this "Clanking noise" then it would just hum. Now it only Clanks like twice & nothing. I adj the Valves so that's not it. It getting gas threw the filter but don't know if it's the starter or the Carb. As I'm thinking about it, I don't think the break light comes on either. What do you think is wrong?

That was easy! Sometimes it can also be the stator/ pickup assambly or the ignition coil. Before changing them you should check all connections by unplugging and reconnecting them.

9 out of 10 times if you have no spark its the cds. if your bike has no cdi look for a black squar bob its a relay some older schooters used relays instead of cdi systems. I actuly just fixed a schooter the other day for a firend that used a replay instead of a cdi. 2 different machanics looked at it could not get it running she bout it off the one o fhtem who owned it I poped in a new realy and it fired right up. now she wants to take it to the guys house and show him how a person who is a quarter the age of 2 people who have worked on bikes all their life fiex something they could not.

I got Spark, it started at first but after running for a couple of minutes it slowly faded and stop. I see gas coming out of the 90 degres hose hooked on the side of the carburetor but not from the port hole?

Yeah as the guy said basically take the "FUEL IN" line to your carb, pop the end off, and try to crank your bike over. Fuel should spill out of that line. If it is fueling from the tank to the carb, and you have spark, then I would suggest taking off your carb and completely cleaning it or just buy a new carb. Then put the carb back on, hook everything back up, let it crank for 10 seconds or so and it should fire up

My burgman 400 2004 was starting later when I tried it wouldn't. Brought the bike from a friend n it had been sitting for 3yrs... Put fresh gas in but didn't change spark plug... Would that b an issue it won't turn over (start)

Great Video Kasey. (I've worked on GY6 50 & 150 scooters (EVO 150 is my current one/see my pic) for over 10 years and I have found that about 90% of Starting problems are the CDI boxes (even aftermarket ones die). But I have a friends 2016 Taotao 50 that I've worked on a couple of times, but now it won't start. It's got spark, tanks got fuel, filter is clean, no lines are pinched, but it's not getting fuel. Whats your thought ? the vacuum/petcock diaphragm is bad so no fuel is getting to carb ? or do think it might be a clogged jet in the float bowl ? or maybe a float that is stuck shut ? NOTE: the plug was dry...even a little orange rusty, but I wired brush cleaned it and it still sparks ( I did replaced it though). my next step was to take the air box off and spray some starting fluid in the carb and see if it will fire...which if it does, would tell me it's definitely a fuel flow problem. My next step would be to pop the vacuum line off and the fuel line to the carb from the vacuum/petock and suck on the vacuum line to see if the diaphragm is working and letting fuel flow. After that the only thing I can think to do is to pull the carb and clean it...which is a hassle, but I've done it before (on the Jonway Fone 150cc I used to have) so its doable, just a pain. I would appreciate your thoughts.

You aren't getting enough fuel to start it. See if there is fuel reaching the carburetor. If there is, the carb probably needs to be disassembled and the passages cleared out with compressed air or maybe a strong jet of wd-40, Brake Cleaner, carb cleaner or such. When re-assembled (properly) it should run without the ether spray.

I've a problem with my chinese Generic XOR 50. When I was riding about, the engine shut off and I couldn't get it running again (happened about 2 months ago). I've checked for a spark and there is a spark, although I still have replaced my CDI box and my ignition coil and nothing happened - still the same. I got a friend to come and see what's wrong with it and he basically put some petrol inside the cylinder and adjusted the carburettor and it started for like 20 seconds and stopped running again. I have no idea what it is now. I've check the cylinder + piston & rings and replaced the whole cylinder with a new piston and rings but still. Would you think that it's the carburettor fault? I mean when my friend put in some petrol into the cylinder it did fire up but only for the 20 seconds and then nothing. I've ordered a new carburettor but I'm wondering if this could be the issue? The spark plug is sometimes wet and sometimes it isn't. Fuel sometimes even isn't sucked up through the 'wires'. Thanks.

I replaced the starter and spark plug in my 2014 yao yao and still no start and was told if the brake light comes on when trying to start it that a safety has tripped out (to keep someone from hotwiring it?) A previous mechanic had tried starting it from the solenoid... and may have tripped it. Is there a way I can fix that?

did you check the valves? they may need adjustment. if they are off, it wrong be getting enough compression to ignore the fuel.

I sent mine to the shop and they told me, that it was a bad gas mixture stuck inside my carburetor. They also recommend me to switch from regular gas to 91. Thanks for the advice though!

If your lights are randomly dimming and not working correctly, it's either an old battery that should be replaced or your stator is not pumping out the current needed to power things. So I would start by replacing or charging your battery completely and if it persists you might need to swap the alternator or something

He means there's no reason to take the existing spark plug out. Just pull the cable off and put it on a spare plug against the block and you can see if you have Spark. I would guess that it's very rare that the spark plug it would be the problem.

Have you tried checking the cdi cut off switch?? Sometimes a pinched wire can ground to the frame and prevent any spark from happening. Some scooters or mopeds even have points systems but not really common these days.

On the connectors to the cdi should the 4 prong side have all four hooked up? The moped I'm working on only has 3 wired and the forth is open. Not sure if that's the problem or if it's the cdi

the 4th one would be the RPM sensor, so it cuts the spark out after a set RPM stopping it going over 31MPH. Without it it can go faster, at the expense of a shorter lifespan on the engine

U would check your wires hut more importantly your solenoid may be bad.

You may have a short somewhere in your wiring. Happened to me. Some ignition coil wires got shorted to the frame by accident. I checked all my wires everywhere on the bike and found it, patched it with electrical tape and it was OK. This is especially true if you can sometimes get it to start by jostling the bike around
