I’ve been giving my 05 mdx some well deserved love this year after 250000 milesNew valve cover gasket and new pcv valve as it was leaking engine oil too. I also did a valve adjustment while doing all that. Put new control arms in the front and new tie rods, all 4 sway bar links, 2 struts in the back. My next job I’ll take care of the spots in the video as they leaking pretty bad. I also have a minor transmission leak that I can’t find the source. I’ll give that some attention too and clean the shift solenoids on top of the transmission and do a 3/3 flush. Shifting from 2 to 3 is a bit harsh. If you have a high mileage mdx or a pilot don’t forget to change your differential fluid and the transfer case fluid. Awesome video.

Those cam thrust covers install a lot easier if you put the new o-ring on them and then put the assembly in the freezer for about 90 minutes. Did this and it popped right in. It's pretty easy to damage the new o-ring if it doesn't go straight in.

07 pilot. My Vtek solenoid on rear cylinder head up top near fire wall leaked where the two halves mated. I was able to remove it and split the two parts and re seal with honda bond. No o ring available for this. They do sell the one where it mates to the head if your is leaking there.

I was coming here to mention this leak! This one gets it bad because the oil doesn't drain away where these surfaces meet inside the v-tec housing. If you've tried everything else and you're still stumped, this is the culprit!

Hi, great video! How can you tell if it is the oil pump that is leaking or the oil filter housing that is leaking? I have a 2007 RL and I can see oil leaking from the oil filter housing area but not 100% sure if it is not really the oil pump that is leaking. Actually... thinking about this a bit and if the oil pump was leaking, wouldn't the timing belt become oil drenched as well whereas, if it were the oil filter housing that was leaking, the timing belt would be dry? I have my timing belt exposed as I am in the midst of changing the timing belt and W/P and it looks bone dry; old but bone dry. So I think that would make me think the leak is from the oil filter housing and not the from the oil pump. Does that make any sense?

I think it makes sense. I am in the opposite situation. Oil filter plate looks dry but has oil collecting on top edge of the pan near the crank pulley, dripping down to bottom of pan. I suspect it's the oil pump seal but have not removed timing cover to inspect belt.

@RadialPen6262

I've had luck getting at the rear main by "pac manning" the engine and transmission. I just remove all lower bell housing bolts. Before removing them, however I replace the upper 2 or 3 bell housing bolts with long high grade steel bolts. The point of all this is to open the engine and trans from the bottom like a clamshell. You can sometimes get the converter and flywheel out in this way so you can get at the seal. Avoiding complete transmission removal. Any way hope this helps
@bundysgarage
@bundysgarage 3 жыл бұрын
How do you remove the seal and how do you install it correctly? Sounds very interesting. Also the trans and engine will separate enough to sneak them out?

@@bundysgarage never replaced rear main seal this way. Only a bad torque converter on an older camry when I worked for Latoya. On that particular model there wasn't room enough to completely separate trans from engine without pulling engine/trans assembly. On bottom the cradle would have been a pain in the butt to manouver around. I just tilted engine trans down on the transmission side and used a screw jack to to tilt the trans back up and snuck the converter out. Book time was like 6 or 7 hours but doing it this way only took 4

I just resealed the oil pump on an 2008 MDX with 286k miles. The oil pump seal, water pump and hydraulic tensioner were all leaking and replaced. After reassembly, I have an oil leak dripping from the back lower bolt on the back timing belt cover. Did not notice a leak from the front camshaft seal when I had it apart, but that seems like the only logical point of failure, as the leak originates from above the oil pump. Does this leak sound familiar?
