They make aluminum filled body filler especially well suited to powder coating. I use it and it works great!

Last week I ran into a valve cover that had a JBWeld patch on a small hole. This was a meatball job so I just left it and I was kinda stunned the JBWeld held up to 400º. Basic JBWeld instructions say one can heat it and cure it faster and I've done that a few times with a heat gun and it works but ya gotta take it easy. Just speeds things up a little. How nice to have a simple patch without soldering/brazing lead, bronze and such. . Bobby

I plan on patching a rust hole in a hard top today before it goes to powder, going hammer white so im hoping it wont need to be perfect but i was also going to try to mold its shape with wax paper and let it sit 5 or 10 minutes and remove it and or popsicle sticks to shape a corner i figured that would be easier to grind than the jb

Dan, the quick set epoxy is only good for 350°... So the one you're using is best. Try the JB weld before primer and then use the high build primer filler powder coat. You can actually use it to fill small pits too. The high build primer that is...

Not related to the post , but looking for advice .So I was thinking…. Jb weld (if thick) doesn’t powder-coat well. Wandering if you could mix in metal powder, into the job weld ? Surely that would sort out the coverage issue .? Just a thought.

So, i dont get it, jbweld attracts powder too? i'm restoring brake calipers and thinking of powder coating them, but would like to improve the finish on the casting and i'm evaluating using some sort of filler instead of sanding the whole thing..

You got to start documenting your time, from cleaning, prep, blasting, masking to coating. Then add in consumables like sand, tape, powder, cost to run oven booth ect.

Consider powder cost in every customers pricing and dont feel bad for charging them for half of the cost of the box of powder and not using half, that way you can build inventory up
