Oh my stars!! Thank you SO much for making this video. I was about to return the prompter because I couldn't figure this out. I went so far as to request a RMA number, pack up the prompter and was ready to ship it back tomorrow. Then I decided to search for a solution here on KZbin and found your video! Such a frustrating product. This is a terrific tutorial. Wish I had seen it before I gave up and put my Elgato Prompter on eBay. I Also really reevaluated my “need” for a prompter, and decided I really didn’t, after all. Lesson learned.

I used another cable bc my MBP doesn't support USB-A...that's old tech. Just make sure the cable you buy is USB-C 3.0 (or higher) and 5gbps transfer or faster.

Thank you for this video! This is what I needed initially. Unfortunately, it did not help my current situation and maybe you can point me in the right direction. When I use ECamm with the Elgato Promper and Zoom on my M1 that is connected with my Sony A6400, my display in Ecamm starts to lag, then moves to straight up freezing. If I close ECamm, everything is fine. I have used Ecamm now for over 2-3 years and love it. I got the prompter to level up my eye contact. It has had days where they work together for one or two of my client sessions and other days where it won't work at all. I have tried the Ecamm FB support group as well as contacting Elgato. No one else seems to have my issue.

Hi. Not sure if I can help but if you’re connecting the camera via a CamLink. Then change the usb port and ensure it’s connected directly to the Mac. Next try lowering the resolution of what Ecamm is recording at and how many ISO recordings you are performing. I’d do some testing with these different settings his using the prompter etc. that’s all I can think off right now. This was tremendously helpful. My Prompter was mirroring my screen but I couldn't get it to show just the text from the Camera Hub app. The issue was that the Camera Hub app wasn't listed in the security settings. I added it, restarted Camera Hub and hey presto... perfect!

Great post thx. Did everything you mentioned….one thing not working for me is the txt size. The elegato didn’t scroll txt or make the txt bigger or allow me to change the font. Pretty crappy experience given this product price point.

Thanks for the info, I managed to get the prompter to show up and the text etc, but how do you make the text start to move so I can read it lol? There doesn't seem to be a way to hit "play" if you know what I mean.

There should be a play button right at the bottom of where you edit the text in the Elgato Hub Software.

Hi Neil, thanks for the informative video. I have a problem with this prompter. When I add text in my native language (Persian) in Camera Hub on my MacBook, the program freezes and I can only exit the program. Do you have a solution?

Ran a Mac system update and it deleted the screen priviliges for Elgato Camera Hub. Added them back in and it worked instantly.

Thank you for this! I had just received mine but not sure why but when on display mode I drag the Skype application which I can then see in teleprompter. Great. But I can’t then click on this in the application like call, chat etc. when I hover over menu, help I can click and type and also open other applications but can’t type in any once opened. I am not sure what that is happening as this is not default behaviour. Can you check your display seeings on your computer to see what the Elgato Propter is recognised as? Also make sure you have the latest camera hub software.

@ thank you, I did check everything. It seems like when I don’t have the camera hub software open I can use the prompter as a second display and everything works. I can click on the center of the screen and type etc. when the camera hub software is open then I can’t. Is this normal?

​@@RiffsRhythm hi - no not normal. However Camera Hub will display various content depending how you have this configured. Check this ->With Camera Hub open - from the main menu click "configure camera hub" - Click the "Prompter Tab" at the top and then under the "Content" setting what is this set to? It should be Display to act as a monitor and then Text for teleprompter script mode. You also may need to check your system's display settings and make sure the prompter is acting as a separate monitor and not a mirror or your main display. help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/20722239899789-Elgato-Prompter-Display-Mode

Got mine at launch in December. It has never once worked on my mac. It will work just fine on my PC. I am so angry and frustrated with this product. I've worked with Elgato Support since December and they cannot figure out why it wont work. I tried all of your things here, everything is exactly as you have them. I've toggled, uninstalled, reinstalled, a dozen times. When i plug the cable in (had to use different 3rd party cables because of course Elgato has usb c to usb a and my new macbook pro M3 Max only has usb c ports...cable i bought is for the Quest 3 so i know it is 3.1 and more than fast enough). The screen turns on with the blue back ground and logo, then it just shuts off. The compter never detects anything is plugged in. I have tried all the different usb ports as well to make sure it was on the compter side. None of it matters.

Sorry, you're having all these issues. I'm not sure what else to think of here. I've seen people get the prompter working by toggling on and off the security settings for both Cam Hub & Display Link. Have you tried the Cam Hub beta version? I posted a video about that - it may fix your issue, but I'm struggling to think of what else it could be. Beta version here: www.elgato.com/us/en/s/beta - failing that I could spend 30 mins with you on a Zoom call to see if there is anything I can do. Let me know how you get on with the Beta if you haven't tried it.

@mattmc20 I had the same issue, but this solved it for me. In the DisplayLink Manager dropdown, I turned on the toggle on the "Display Rotation and Toggle: Elgato Prom." line. Literally came to life at the flip of a switch. Hope this helps you! (I posted this comment before, but it looks like it might've been flagged for having a Reddit link)

Hi Neil - my problem is with MS Teams and the promptor - if I move a teams call into the prompter, it won't show the entire window. It cuts off the bottom 10% of the window. This is even when I make the window as small as possible - it has a limit to how small you can make it. Any suggestions on a fix?

Are you on Windows or Mac OS? Also is this the Teams Web or Desktop Client? The prompter has a fixed resolution of 1024 x 600. Have you tried to drag the Teams Window into the prompter and maximising it? I can take a look later at this but I don't regularly use Teams but can take a quick look :-)

I use the desktop client.The problem exists both when I drag the window in (minimised to the max) and when I maximise (make it full screen) in the prompter. In both cases, the bottom of the window doesn't fit and overlaps onto my monitor. I've read on forums that the Teams Window has a minimum size. I just find it strange that the prompter won't fit it.

When I move an application into the Elgato window, I'm not able to click anything. The same thing was happening when I was using my ipad as a second monitor and teleprompter. I thought the issue would go away with the Elgato prompter, but it must be a 2nd monitor issue. But my mouse works fine on my other main big 2nd monitor. I can't find anything on Google that shows how to fix this.

If you are on a MAC, how have you setup your Elgato and Main monitor in the MAC Display Settings. The Elgato is just a secondary monitor but you need to make sure you have the monitor setup correct in the MAC settings. This may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aprLk3xun8aZirc

I already have it set up as a secondary monitor, and used my display settings to arrange monitors. Been doing this for years... but for some reason, I can drag applications into my promopter monitor and they appear fine. But I can't click on anything... the only way to get it back to my main monitor is to do that 3-finger swipe so you can see all your active applications at once, and drag it back from there. So when I have the zoom window in my prompter app, it looks fine. But I can't move it again, click the chat, or anything.@@NeilFarrimond

I have the Elgato Prompter (on a Mac Sonoma), and it has been working brilliantly. However, today, I had a meeting using the prompter. I finished the meeting, and everything was fine. But then I came to the next meeting, and the prompter had a blank screen. This has happened a couple of times before, and I just unplugged the prompter and plugged it back in. That didn't work today, and it is still displaying a black screen. It is showing up in the Displays settings and I can move it around but I can't get anything to display on it.

Hi. Do you have the latest version of Camera Hub software? Elgato recently update it to v 1.9. I’d recommend installing that first.
