Hi Natasha- thinking about adding this next year. We will be using Write Shop Jr. which only has a tiny bit of grammar. 2 questions for you- if my 14-year-old has never done Fix-It but has basic grammar knowledge. Does book 2 do a review or jump right in? Do you think she'd be okay or should I start her in Nose Tree along with Abigail? Also, I see that there are lines for rewriting on the bottom of the pages now- are you planning on using them or doing it in the traditional way and rewriting continuously like a story, in another notebook? Or are you supposed to do both? I kind of like the old way for that part... Great review!!

It does start with a review so I think she would be fine doing book 2. My girls are going to use the lines (Evy already started) but it is kind of fun to have them rewrite in a separate notebook to have a keepsake of the continuous story.

do you have to buy the grammar cards now? I know the level one I have had ones in the back of the book we were able to use. Im just wondering if they are not doing that now

They are no longer included in the back of the Fix It books. They’re not a must have though.

We're about halfway through the old level 1 and I'm super excited to get the new version for level 2! I'm working through it with my 3 oldest kids at the same time. Do I need to purchase 3 student books or is there a digital download available as there was in the previous edition?

Fix-It has vocab included, and so does IEW’s writing, so I don’t add additional vocab. :)

Yes, but I still recommend doing reading and spelling.

@@EducationalRoots yes! We definitely do a lot of reading and Spelling You See 😃 I’m switching over from CLE - it was a tonnn of work and a lot of it seemed like overkill - I hate busy work for busy work sake. I’m very excited to start this program!

@@adriennehallgoolsby2919 I happened upon this video looking at Fix It for my my boys. My 3rd grader is currently using CLE, may I ask what level you're switching from. I love CLE LA, but as you said, it's a lot!

@@Jonnyplays463 we switched from level 3 - we didn’t even finish it 😬 it just took way to much time. I really wanted to focus more on writing and creating time for more reading!!! I really want their reading fluency and comprehension to soar … IMO that’s way more valuable than for them to be able to identify grammar principles 🥰

Hello, I'm very interested in Fix It, I've been looking at it for the past year now. I know you mentioned starting in level 1 if you've never used Fix It, but wondering if 7th and 8th graders might be able to start a higher level if they have an solid understanding of grammar. Also, what would you pair this with for writing? I'm new to IEW, but was looking the Narnia theme books, I like the idea of reading and writing together. Thoughts? Thank you in advance! (My son hi-jacked my KZbin account...I promise I'm the mom and not the 8 year old. lol)

Lol! Yes, there’s a placement test you can take for an older child :) You can do Structure and Style for Students (level B for 7th and 8th) or you could do a level B themed based book, so Narnia would be just fine. :)

Shucks, it looks like they don’t have a new placement test with the new revisions. It says to look at the samples to place an older child. That being said, I would likely start on level 2 or 3 for a 7th/8th grader will solid grammar. At least with the old version, level 3 got pretty intense. So if they’re really good at grammar, you could go with level 3. Then again, I don’t have experience with the new level 3. That’s probably not helpful! Lol
