I love how you did yours. I am going to do it myself and this video is what I needed. The other ones shows people taking the whole unit out the car, which I will not do. Also, they show people underneath unhooking the linkage, which I do not believe you did. If you did unhook the linkage underneath, please let me know. Your video was by far the best for someone doing it at home. I am not a mechanic but feel comfortable after watching your video...KZbin has helped a lot of people.

Update - three weeks since fix. Still shifts like a charm. All sloppiness gone.

Valuable info. Sourced the bushings from a local Toyota yesterday and about to dive into this. Do you have the 2WD Base or 4x4 Limited? My shifter is different on the SR5.

What r the bushings called so I can order them???
@royfred24147 жыл бұрын
I would recommend removing the linkage underneath the truck (cotter pin and a nut). Then pull entire shift lever out to work on the bushing replacement. You will need to apply some pressure and pull the boot away from the bottom of the plate. Made it much easier for me to work on.

id rather not. I should be okay doing it the way in the video? having same problem now

@@jeffspicoli1661 I did this job yesterday. A lot easier to remove unit and work on a bench. IMO. No need to remove Phillips head screws. Only the 4 on plate and clip on linkage. Very easy. Again, IMO.

In addition to your comment....remove the rubber boot using this procedure: push the metal rings out with a small screwdriver and then pull out by nudging it from the bottom.

How do you remove the front center console part so you can have room to loosen the 10mm bolts?
@royfred24147 жыл бұрын
The plastic piece (darker brown) around the shifter will pop out. 4 tabs - two near the top toward front of car, two near the bottom toward center arm rest area. I started at the top, then worked it out. It's tight, but will come out with some pressure. You can lift up on the cup holder area to get it out. It will flex some.

This linked video can be used to compliment what I did not show...accessing shift mechanism from the underside of the truck. While not exactly the same, it does show some of the detail I did not. Pretty easy job for a DIYer. Total for me to complete this project was approx 45 minutes and (2) bushings. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrPiZuaZ76Fb7s

Lawrence Chaplin = I personally would check ANYWHERE online or Napa or Auto zone, Maybe your next door neighbor or your neighbor's neighbor or your neighbor's cousin or Any of Their relatives or ANY Place Before you go to Toyota to get a part. I Havn't seen a Toyota Part Yet that was worth what they charged for it. Do you need the part ? ...Well YES, OBVIOUSLY. ..But DAM PEOPLE !! ...Com'on ! The F'n Thing Isn't Made Of GOLD Like they Think it is ! - I would check Anywhere else 1st & leave Toyota as a L A S T resort for buying parts

Thanks for the video Roy. The only thing I would add is a tip I got from 4Runner girl's video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXHdqqvhrqCna8) If you disconnect the shifter bar under the vehicle, this allows you to completely remove the shifter and allows for easier access to the nut and bolt. Other than that, great video @Roy Fred. Thanks!
