Fix OBS Black Screen 2024 - OBS Studio Game Capture & Display Capture Solved

In this video I show you how to fix OBS black screen issues, typically seen when using game capture or display capture sources. The black screen error can be due to multiple different reasons, meaning there a numerous possible ways to solve the issue.
One of the more common reasons why you might be getting a black screen in OBS Studio is due to the graphic settings being wrong. Depending on your PC you may need to set OBS to be run using the power saving method or the high performance option. You can select which is used through the Windows graphics settings. This will only affect OBS Studio if the power-saving and high performance options are different. In some cases, your GPU may be used for both options.
Another solution is to try using a different capture method. For example, if you are getting the black screen issue with game capture then you can try using display capture instead. Similarly, you can use game capture instead of game capture if needed. You can also use Window capture ot capture an application, which is useful if you're getting the black screen error when trying to record or stream gameplay.
You may also see the OBS black screen issue if you're using game capture and your game is minimized. Typically, the game needs to be open for it to be shown inside of OBS. If this is the case you will see a black screen when in OBS, however, this will be fixed when you tab back into the game.
Another way to fix OBS studio black screen issues is to ensure that your capture source is filling up the screen. It is possible to have the source off the OBS canvas, or even be 1 or 2 pixels big. This will result in your screen or game not showing. You can fix this issue by right-clicking on the source and selecting transform then fit to screen. This will ensure that the source covers the entire canvas and fits correctly.
A simple reason why you might be seeing a black screen is that the source isn't visible. You can toggle the visibility of a source using the eye icon next to the source name. If this is turned off then the source will be hidden.

This worked! It only works if I have the graphics display setting set to power saving mode. The other two options kept the obs screen black.

nothing worked for me until I found this method- use firefox browser and in firefox setting go to - general scroll down to - performance unclick use recommended performance and then unclick hardware acceleration.
