I have STARTED addressing my rib flares after KZbin’s algorithm magically suggested some videos on the topic. Based on the little I have done so far, a pain I have had for a long time in my back’s thoracic area has practically gone away. It has helped me relieve the built-up pressure I have in these areas. I feared my thoracic spine area was eventually going to have a herniated disk. Still, now I hope that by addressing my rib flare, which resulted in an imbalanced load on my thoracic area, I will reduce the risk of this area getting worse and even stronger. I'm curious to know what you think of this. Thank you. Your videos on this topic are the most understandable I have found.

Two for ya Zac, although not totally related to this particular video (possibly moreso the previous one): 1.) The exercise ball "dead bug" like move from your previous video - would that incidentally help with rib flare as well? 2.) The yoga block ribcage expansion move from previous video - can that be progressed and if so how? My guess would either be changing the angle of the yoga block to place more pointed pressure on the ribcage or by maybe placing cushioned weight on the topside ribcage? Thoughts there as to how to progress and also when?
@ZacCupplesPT5 ай бұрын
Thank you for commenting! 1. It definitely could. Would consider it a regression. Just make sure you don't force low ribs down. 2. You progress it by removing the block and either doing it side plank style or pressing with the arm. The block takes the place of your obliques Keep rocking!

Mmmm, a recommendation for doing two sets of 5 progressions for undefined period of time... Did someone tried it and saw any improvement? Very risky for time wasting

While holding those poses, should there be any focus on the breath and where I'm breathing? ie. should I focus on bringing the ribs 'down'? Or is just holding the 'bear' pose with some effort enough?

hey Zac, just got a very basic doubt. Could a person with flat feet compensate into a swayback pattern? Given how these people are always in that APT, is further compensating into swayback a common occurence?

I have so many problems on my rib flair side. I've been trying to address all those for years, but I realise the rib flare is the structural component I need to address. The man who built his house on sand, is coming to mind as a cautionary tale!😅

Why doesn't this happen to other people? And if I made my ribs go down, I don't do it anymore or do I have to keep doing it? Can it also be fixed by doing abdominal exercises? 😢

Are you reeeaaaally sure that pushing down the ribs is wrong? I think the belly coming out isn't due to the ribs being pusht down, but due to the transverse abdominis being too weak. because as someone who's been training for 14 years now and is suffering from swayback (70% fixed) and a weak TA, pushing down the ribs was what really helped me to get rid of those overactive upper ribs. Just pulling them back isn't cutting it and doesn't feel sustainable in the daily life.. but since I reactivated and strengthened my TA, as soon as I push down my ribs, I engage my TA which pulls back the lower belly (and maybe shifts things back a bit up inside), and the ribs can then rest relaxed, stacked on the TA musculature. So I am wondering whether learning to "pull back" the ribs is really the right thing to do, instead of "pushing them down" (which is basically just relaxing from the perspective of someone who's overengaging the upper abs due to a lower ab weakness) and then engaging the lower core instead.

if you're comfortable can you make a video about it? Orr rather explain a little more thoroughly for me? Sorry if it's a lot to ask, I have a hard time understanding stuff just from reading it a lot of the time 😅

Take anything that elevates you. Then place a towel or cloth around it to soften it. I use a sort of plank and cower it with my blanket.

Zac, I have anterior pelvic tilt but apparently a rib flare is common if that’s the case, but i don’t think I have rib flare. Is your latest anterior pelvic tilt video still up to date / best advise to follow to fix my apt issue? Thanks as always in advance!!

Is there any connection between rib flare, pooch belly and compression in SI joint , i do exercise for one other gets better but everything comes back as it was , i am confused what’s happening, thanks 🙏
@ZacCupplesPT5 ай бұрын
It's a combo of making sure you aren't making the ribs down mistake in this, the right sequence, and doing higher intensity stuff without the cheats. Order at which I'd go --> pooch belly, then rib flare
