My 2005 chevy silverado stated this last week . I will try this fix . I did wonder if it was a bad pvc . It dosnt do it on every start . I knew it wasnt the rings cause it stops after about 10 seconds with the engine running . Just one huge puff of smoke when it starts then it goes away . Thank you . I subbed and thumbed this video .

Neighbor does this fix all the time and he drills small holes in the baffle around specific cylinders, in the valve cover. He also has a AFM thing he inserts in his OBD2 reader too.

Yea it only smokes on start up after the engine has cooled overnite..i'm having this issue AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS..The first time I just cleaned those il passage holes out with carb spray and compressed air. This time I will drill these oil passage holes out bigger..they are about an eighth of a inch from the factree...I will drill em out to 5/32"..I am very confident it will fix the issue..it fixed the problem on a 2008 avelanche

Hmm....don't have a Yukon, but a 2010 sierra with the 5.3. Just started seeing smoke after start up and was worried. Thanks for this informative video. I'll try this before taking to the mechanic.

If it still smokes after this valve cover replacement, disable the AFM active fuel management with an AFM disabler or replace the top engine plate and lifters. That also causes it to burn oil. I replaced the top engine plate and lifters on my 09 gmc yukon, but i still had to use the AFM disabler because you have to use a scanner to delete it from the system.

I have a 2008 Cadillac Escalade EXT and it just now started smoking on start up and clears out after one minute. It has a 6.2 liter but I think the block is the same as the 5.3 liter. I am going to research and try replacing the valve cover on the driver's side where the pcv valve is located. Thanks.

Bought a mint 2005 Tahoe with 5.3 141k miles and it started a small puff of smoke when you start it for just a sec then stops. Going to try an see if that’s the issue! Thanks

Man.... my steering column housing shattered and it sat for a month or so til I could fix it and when I did I turned it on and it started to smoke bad... thought it was headgasket but no mixing fluids or frothy oil or anything! But only could find headgasket issues with smoking tailpipe and so now I have my motor torn apart and just saw these videos about the pcv valve... feel so stupid and pissed at myself lol could of had that thing fixed a year ago... now time to build engine back and get a new valve cover🤦🤦

Hello, yes just remove the oil filler cap and put your palm over the filler neck. You should be able to feel a slight vacuum. If you feel air blowing out of the filler hole then try replacing the PCV valve. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps.

A blocked PCV system would not affect oil pressure.

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 (2WD) V8 5.3L and now I have a white smoke coming from my truck tail pipe. It is a coincidence that it all happen on my oil changed that I did it myself after a 2-3 days of driving. My oil dip stick is at max only not over filled. Do you think I may have bad valve cover as well?

I took off about a quart and a half and it is still having white smoke upon start up. I also have a P0300 RANDOM MISFIRED and changed all 8 spark plugs but the code still comes back as P0300. Any ideas?

Wrench sense I got a question my fiancé let a guy older man an his son work on our youkon an man it’s been a mess collapsed lifter driver side an thought he fixed it right an he said he only cleaned the lifter when he took apart an it’s fine now we went an got it an got 2 miles down road done it again he said bring back I said I want all new lifters replaced gaskets ect an he supposedly did that he said the lifters we brought all collapsed as soon as he put em in lol an then he went an got some he bought an let u know he also said he punched out one the screens in the gasket so the oil would forsure get to where it needed umm I knew it was a big mistake he told her come get it he couldn’t do nothing else without it 950$ later it’s blowing white cloud of smoke when u start it an going down the road it’ll say low oil pressure turn engine off I had several to do this but wats ur opinion on this it don’t have water in the oil an it’s not using coolant if so barley I don’t know wat to do this is my opinion I said the o ring on the pick up tube an possibly the oil pump it’s also sucking the fuel she said just had the oil pressure sensor replaced 5 months ago I told her could be the screen not sure need help an advice???
