2015 535 xdrive with N55. All stock. I bought this car 6yrs ago in 2018 coming off lease with 32k miles on it and still under warranty. Dealer changed out valve cover gasket as part of sales prep. I promptly broke transfer box zooming up hills in Sport mode 😂, replaced with new under warranty. I have tracked it only once. Now 6yrs later and at 78k miles. No issues. Have only done routine maintenance such as oil every 6 months, air filter every year, pads and rotors, tires and recently transmission pan and fluid change using ZF fluid and pan. I DIY so costs have been minimal to date. Plugs, coils, belt and belt tensioner will be upcoming items for routine maintenance. So far this car has been bullet proof.

Thanks Fritz! I'm approaching 104k miles and have replaced the charge pipe twice (once under warranty, then I replaced with the vrsf myself when the second started to leak, no issues since), oil filter housing gasket (used a mechanic, but EatSleepDrive has a good tutorial), coolant hose off the expansion tank (left me stranded, but very easy fix with part and coolant). Previous N55s have had electric water pump and thermostat issues, but possibly fixed now considering the lack of comments on the 2addicts forums. No issues with the boost pipe or intercooler. Very reliable car, especially after all known issues are addressed and even more so if the car is kept stock. I've driven across the country 3 times with no issues and the last 30k miles have been problem free with routine DIY maintenance.

for future and current n55 owners, my Chargepipe went out at 74, but you you want it replaced by the time you hit 70k, another common issue/failure that wasn't addressed in this video is the water pump that goes out at 80k yet again thats not exactly something that is easily done in the garage. im at 75k right now with a 435xi and the turbo inlet and outlet pipes haven't gone out. imo you should do the charge pipe > waterpump> turbo pipes > intercooler and like the video said the gaskets isn't something you need to do ahead of time, turbo pipes probably won't be that major of an issue if you've already got the aluminum CP. the intercooler isn't that big of a priority if you aren't tuned or catless since its not really prone to break hope this helps and dont let this comment deter you or scare you it sounds like a lot but every car that isn't a Toyota/ Honda will have its issues...

Why you didn't mentioned the electric water pump ? It's a common and known issue on N55. I bought my 2015 M235i with 50k miles on it from my dealership (I’m in sales) I had one of my techs I trust check it out before I went through with it, in his words he said “this is one of the cleanest bmw’s I’ve ever seen, no leaks anywhere.” Literally in the first 2 months I owned it, the charge pipe exploded off AND the valve cover and oil pan gaskets failed.. 🤣🤣☠️☠️… I just hit 113k, just replaced the spark plugs and coils, the valve cover a second time and this time around I changed the oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket…. As well as a new radiator and upper radiator hose. Other than those issues (most of which happened almost all at once at 100k miles)… This engine has been shockingly reliable considering it’s a BMW.

Few more things. 1st thing and main problem of this engine is lightweight crankshaft... easy way to sell your n55 crankshaft and buy n54 crank (8 bolts) and forged crank pistons. This save your engine in future. It's game changer for durability of this engine. Of course, the crankshaft liners (bearings) also has to be changed, and preferably the forged pistons and rings, since you have already disassembled the engine. 2nd thing remove the hydraulic valve, installed a plug from n52. The pump will work constantly. Accordingly, there will be a benefit from the cooling system. problem with the N55 cooling, or rather with how its operation is implemented. In short, any intervention/improvement in the CO, even just opening the blinds, does not lead to a decrease in the temperature of the internal combustion engine, but to the fact that the pump rotates more and more slowly. N52 plug fix this problem. Complex of this steps will alow you to tuneup n55 to 500+ 800+ hp by adding fuel system and big turbo. Cost of ALL the parts 6-13k depends what you chose and how many HP you want.

@@FritzRamos No leaks at all. Put a litre of 5w30 in and a noticeable difference. I have seen minor signs of smoke on very cold starts. The dead pedal and sudden power is annoying as f***

Hi fritz, thanks for the great vid. I switched 3 years ago from a N54 to the N55 (M135i-2014) and i didnt regregt this choice. The N54 was an awesome engine (430hp) but i got so many issues over the years (cant even count-_-)....yeah it was tuned, but even with stock power i had just trouble. My mechanic loves me because every quarter year i had huge and expensive problemes(high pressure pump, injection,valves,turbos....and more and more..... With the N55 its kind of a new Level, a new level of driving "without trouble" ...ok, i just got 62000km(38.000 miles), i have a chargepipe-boostkit upgrade and a M-Performance exhaust (~350hp) ok, to be fair the N55 has some tiny little issues, the wastegate rattles a little bit, and the vaccum pump makes wired noises in cold start...but it works, i checked that from my BMW dealer and he just said "state of the art" ...

was so confused why my car threw a check engine light after installing a cold air intake u til i realized that my turbo inlet pipe wasn’t stable at all, i guess it was already on it way out but when i was moving it a bit , it completely broke. took about a month to diagnose the problem but now i got a vrsf turbo inlet coming soon !

I'm sure that was annoying. Glad you got it sorted out
