I am the same way, like an on and off switch after a ban list hurts my deck or meta decks I always rethink what I did and if it was successful. Currently I am stuck in a loop of updating all of my decks but not getting enough time to play and practice with them in actual duels. My friends hate that I am never ready to play when I am in Big Brain mode lol
@saitougin7210
@saitougin7210 3 ай бұрын
@@Jghost11 I suggest never to play (updating) never more than 3 decks at a time. Just have your favorite deck that is currently and you like, then maybe an alternative and maybe, if it has to be, a fun deck that you like. Update them after each ban list or new set release and play them - or just one of them is actually enough. There are not so many ban lists and sets comming out all the time that could affect your decks. That should give you way more than enough time to actually play your decks. I mean I also have decks, that I put aside for a while: For example, Linkuriboh gets banned because of snake eyes. That means my Altergeist deck may rest for a wole lotta while. I played Raidraptors ad nausium. That means I put Raidraptors aside for a while. I tried Masquerade turbo big pile a couple of times and wasn't satisfied with the results at all. That means, I put that deck aside for a while, until certain reprints come out so that I can play it as a budget deck again. (I try to play the decks as budget decks, after the hype is over and reprints have come out.)

The behind the door math is this. You choose one of 3 doors, then you choose to stay or change. You always choose 1 of 3 but choosing to stay keeps your odds the same because you already did the 1 in 3. So Door 1, 2, 3, then Change or Stay. Let us say door 1 is correct. D1S(Door 1, Stay) is correct. D2S and D3S are wrong. Conversely, D2C and D3C are right, but D1C is wrong. You are more likely to get the right door by changing than by staying because the door you chose had a 2 in 3 of being wrong and you eliminated a guaranteed wrong door so changing gives you the best chance at winning , hence why the 2/3 or %66 chance comes up.

I hate bricking on multiples, I feel like 60 card decks are most prone to that happening because the math allows you to run those playsets but does not prevent you from drawing too many duplicates
@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming 4 ай бұрын
Agreed! If all the cards in the decks are pretty much equal in strength then I find 60 card decks give some mathematical fluff to buffer your ratios so you don't see dupes. Which in a weird way makes 60 card decks just as or even more "consistent" than 40 card decks.
@ozimantv
@ozimantv 4 ай бұрын
Nahhhh you can just reduce the number of playsets and run cards more semi, and single because not every card has the equal value when drawn. You wanna only play the play sets of specific cards that are beneficial to be drawn. Everything else can be less than 2 of and can be accessed through your engine :D
@lucanalon1576
@lucanalon1576 4 ай бұрын
The downside of 60 cards is hand balance. Let’s say an ideal hand is 2 starters, 1 extender, 2 non-engine. You then try to build your deck with this proporsions. With a 40 and 60 cards deck you’ll get the same expented value of each card type in your hand. However the variation will be way higher in a 60 card deck because each draw have less influeance on the next draw.

This is honestly why I don’t like the design of HOPT effects. Even with the argument of “if it’s so strong that you can’t use two in a turn why is it okay to use the first copy?” out of the picture, the way that it impacts deck building in one of the worst-feeling ways possible is really obnoxious. You have these hyper compact powerful starters that play the entire deck by themselves and literally anything else in the deck is either a brick or an extender if your opponent decides to interact with you. The overuse and overreliance of the HOPT design has ruined modern yugioh :/

Your take is a take that most people would disagree with but it is a take i actually agree with if people give it more thought. Do not post this take on reddit or you will be brought to the slaughterhouse lol. For all intents and purposes, it is very annoying when deckbuilding and even is "anti-fun" when you draw cards you cannot use because it is only once per turn. They shouldn't be that strong then and should have a reduced power level. Now you summoned and drew that 1 card and because that resolved you go +7 and have 6 interruptions and if it didn't well now you have to pass and get OTKed by Accesscode talker or something.

I think it might be very cool to see a process of you trying to build a decklist of something as if you we’re going to compete in an event. It could shine a light on all the subjects that you touch in your videos and when to think about a particular context. It also might be useful to understand at which point during the deckbuilding you start making different scenarios, how can we test them and even compare them between one another. I know it might be a bit more of a complex video that is harder to simplify for the average audience, but for us nerds could be something very cool! 🤟🏼

I think a good topic is to go over the math, and go over the scenarios of when to run 2 of a card instead of 3 or 1. Running a playset or a 1 of is a lot more obvious in most situations compared to when it makes sense to semi limit something in your deck.
@JessePerezStrategyGaming

Yes, running cards at 2 is a very interesting mathematical proposition. Whats crazy it that would entail putting a "weight" system on the cards of like a 1-10 where 10 is cards you absolutely NEED to see and 1 is cards you want in deck but only need 1 of. And then there is the random garent cards of the ones you want but not in hand (garnets) that have to have a weight of NULL or 0. Very difficult to do and would have to be on a deck by deck basis and even that would be subject to change based on meta, current flavor techs of the month etc.

Even though I'm a mathematician, I couldn't get through more than the first few minutes, so apologies if you address my concerns. I also typically play 60 cards. Sometimes I don't mind seeing two of the same hard-once-per-turn cards, because it means I'll have a follow-up play for the next turn. (I'll use plants as an example, since it's what I know best): (1) 2x "Aromalilith Rosalina" (TCG) means I have a follow-up play the next turn. It's not perfect, but it keeps up the tempo. (2) 2x "Rikka Petal" (Master Duel) means I have a normal summon backup if the first is banished. People love to banish it with "Called by the Grave" in particular. (3) 2x "Rikka Princess" (Master Duel) I can summon one with it's own effect, and then potentially summon another with "Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy" for an Xyz play, or use the second to trigger "World Carrotweight Champion" This is a bigger issue with Spells/Traps than it is monsters, but I find that redundancy is not as bad as it might appear with such cards, especially if they provide high value and are prime targets for removal.

Yes a fellow mathematician! I do go over some benefits of having dupes and ways you can use them like forbidden droplet, diabeleestar discard, runick discard, super poly etc. There is a certain benefit too knowing we have a certain card again for follow-ups. The goal of the video was how we can maximize our 5 card hand so we can make every card count and create the best turn 1 board we can make or if going 2nd making sure every card counts when breaking through our opponents board. Our dupes might not be effective vs a 3-5interrupt board with potential handtraps. More for those that are aiming to min-max to the fullest so they can break these boards by making every card diverse.

It's an interesting theory but ignores the reason why people run three copies of HOPT cards, it's not like we don't know that we can open multiples of these cards but its that the payoff for drawing those 3 ofs outweighs the risk of opening too many copies, it kinda links in with what Joshua Schmidt said about unequal card quality and I think it's particularly prudent here as you have to weigh the impact of your cards against the consistency of the card.
@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming 4 ай бұрын
Yes! You are absolutely correct. Some cards are so good you have to play 3. Its this weight which I want to focus on. I am sure there are 5 playsets that MUST be played at 3 copies. But does the WHOLE DECK Really need to be at 3? That is the kind of discussion and mistakes I aim to prevent. One issue about small world is that mathematically it's a inherent -1 which means even using it to get to mathmech circular was dumb , chaos space has a similar issue and super poly requires you to run a fusion deck with generic fusions
@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming 4 ай бұрын
Correct! But although it is a -1 which we both agree the combo that the card you searched with it could end up going +3 so in all it ends up net +2. Using your example of circular, you get +1 with the search from circular, another +1 with the XYZ, and then you could go into negate or even combo into Heatsoul for +1 on your turn and +1 again on start of next turn. So yes, you go -1 to search circular but you almost certainly end up positive at the end of the day.

When talking about starter nowadays, those are so good that not matter if it is HOPT, not matter if you may draw duplicates turn 1. The goal is to draw them no matter what because today's one card combo are completly absurd and can win you the game on their own. And so you don't have to think about deckbuild THAT much compared to older formats. You just put the maximum of the one card combo you are allowed to play and call it a day.

I thought of a question that you can answer by turning it in a video: for Master Duel, if I have 3 Maxx "C", 3 droplet, and 3 dark ruler no more in a 40 card deck, combing the probabilities of P(X=x) 30.11% for Maxx "C" (sample size 5) and P(X=x) 43.5% for 3 droplet and 3 dark ruler no more (sample size 6), what would the math be behind the new P(X=x) and P(X≥1) for seeing either only 1 Maxx "C" in a starting hand of 5 or only 1 of either droplet or dark ruler no more in a going second hand of 6? I commented this on a video on a different channel. I basically want to know how to calculate the P(X=x) and P(X≥1) when it comes to combining handtraps and board breakers since the sample sizes (cards in hand) for them are different.
@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming 4 ай бұрын
I don't know if I understand your question properly but I can say the following. In your 3/3/3 example of droplet, maxx C, and DRNM I got the following. For 5 card hands: 1) You have a 74.1 percent chance to see AT LEAST one of them 2) 43 % chance to see EXACTLY one of them. 3) 31% chance to see MORE THAN ONE of them. (could be a dupe still) For 6 card hands: 1) 80 percent chance to see AT LEAST one 2) 39.8% chance to see EXACTLY one. 3) 40.9% chance to see MORE THAN ONE. (could be dupe still) I use stattrek.com/online-calculator/hypergeometric. If your still have more questions I would invite you to the discord where i could probably have a better back and forth to determine what exactly you are looking for. As well as show you how you can calculate these yourself using math or calculators.

@@JessePerezStrategyGaming I am trying to determine how to calculate the percent chance to see AT LEAST one of the 9 cards (and percent chance to see EXACTLY one if possible). However, the calculation for this doesn't make sense in a 6 card hand because Maxx "C" is the only card that is not a good 6th card. Therefore, how do you calculate the percent chance to see AT LEAST one of the 9 cards while taking into account the fact that Maxx "C" can only be calculated in a 5 card hand? In other words, I am wanting to know how to calculate the percent chance to see AT LEAST one blowout handtrap (calculated only in a 5 card hand) or one boardbreaker (calculated only in a 6 card hand) when handtraps and boardbreakers are in a deck. We can continue via discord if you want a further back and forth.

@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming Ай бұрын
I am a BIG fan of Orge in the current format, and currently not a fan of ash and nib. It is very meta dependent I think you certainly could bump Ogre to 3 but leaving ash and Nib at 2 is fine. This is a meta call though. From a purely mathematical standpoint assuming ALL Cards are of great equal value and you want to see them in your opening hand, then you could run ALL 3 cards at 3 provided you are not running any more than 6 HOPT playsets in total in your 43 card deck. So my answer depends on if were looking at pure math, or subjectivity to a current meta.

I need some help over here, Jesse. When you say we need 16-17 two-card starters (and by this I think you mean about 8 pairs) in our deck and 12 one-card starters in our deck, how can you have room for enough for 16-20 hand traps as well as necessary combo pieces? In the video you gave the example of drawing “safe” and “dangerous” cards. However, what it failed to mention was that those “safe” cards are almost by definition weak cards. If cards in a deck were completely interchange (i.e. having equal quality and function) then this “rule” would make sense, but obviously this is never the case. So how many playsets should I run in a 40 card deck?
@JessePerezStrategyGaming
@JessePerezStrategyGaming 3 ай бұрын
If all cards are of equal weight and value then Mathematically 0 is the correct answer but that is never true - some cards are potential worth way more for example, a starter card in certain decks could combo off and go +3/+4 making that card a MUST SEE and cards that search that card also very important as well. So its likely you would want have the best odds to see those cards first - then if you STILL want to see more copies you might consider cards such as "small world" to have an easier time finding such card. The ratios are very deck dependent and there is no right answer but i will say if you are at or about 6 playsets that are HOPT just carefully scrutinize them to make sure they are all COMPLETELY necessary. I.E. do you really need 3 copies your obscure tech cards, or can you replace some handtraps with other high impact handtraps so you don't need to worry about dupes, example do you need 3 ash in a format where top decks are built around playing around it anways? could 1 ash be replaced with a nibiru or a ghost orge? These are the questions we need to ask ourselves when we deckbuild so there technically is no right anwser. For example, when SHS came to masterduel i put 3 droll and lock bird in my deck and didn't think twice. Then when they fell out of favor and wasn't the flavor of the month i slowly removed copies again. Its an fun ebb and flow. :D

If its a problem seeing the garnet card to often you can always up the amount of cards in the deck to dilute the chances of seeing it. If you have a "powerhouse card" that you want to see as often as possible and don't want to increase deck size then consider cards that mulligan your hand and place cards back into the deck like "illusion of chaos" and then it puts the card back while allowing you to search for a magician souls which can ss itself and draw additional cards as well to help you find the powerhouse while putting your garnet back into the deck. (this works best with spell/trap heavy decks) I would need to know the garnet or deck specifically to give you more tailored advice specific to your problem. If you have time come check out the discord I could give more indepth advice there, then here and you can post your decklist etc. But for now i hope this general advice helps! thanks for watching!

That's an interesting concept and decks that run 2 card combos definitely you would want to see 2 cards. But for a 1 card card combo deck that relies on the normal summon you don't want to see that many and in the chance that you do see x0 then that means your hand is probably jacked with handtraps. This is much better seeing the occasional 0x with stack handtraps then consistantly seeing x2/3 because we overvalued consistancy. Thist would essentially create 4/3 card hands when we make a deck too consistent and I stats say you should take the occasional x0 with techs and handtraps then overproduction of consistancy and lower the amount of usable utility in hand.

It depends on how far back you go. Many super retro cards HOPT didn't exist. In early YGO - you could do 3 pot of greeds and 3 graceful charities all in one turn no problem. Then going to even more recent but still retro you have cards like Toy Vender that still has no HOPT. So yes this applies but also if your going deep back then not so much. Some cards have been edited and have erratas to add HOPT like sangan, fairy dragon etc. So if the errata applies then yes because cards like sangan are still HOPT. But if its pre errata sangan then we are good.

Other than as a playset, wouldn't there also be cards that are 2-of's, rather than all the other cards being unique? Shouldn't the real comparison be between drawing a duplicate vs. not seeing a relevant starter (because you're running your starters as a 2-of to avoid drawing duplicates). I don't believe statistics/math is necessary when you tell someone that if they have more copies of the same card, they are more likely to see duplicates, as it seems fairly logical. Math is necessary when proving a counter-intuitive point, such as running more than 40 cards to increase consistency, by lowering the chance of seeing a duplicate card.
