Mine is a 1967 too, but with the drip-edge they began using mid-year, so a transitional model I assume. The seller was a tech who installed the 3-prong cord, removed death cap, replaced only what needed it, added a master volume at the ground switch in back (which is out of the circuit when turned up all the way). He also modded the bass channel to have more mids like a Marshall, the other channel is stock with beautiful blackface scooped clear tones.

@@pharmerdavid1432 I’ve finished up restoring this one but I’m not sure I’m going to keep it original. It’s safe and working well now though.

Beauty of an amp, I hope you enjoy the restoration!

Thanks! There is absolutely no headroom on this amp. The bias is so far off that I'm surprised the 6L6s haven't melted. Can't wait to get the new caps in there.

hi, was just wondering if you ever ended up spraying anything for the mold? Got a similar bassman with a bit of mold on the eyelet

Mine is also warped so I’m either going to replace it or remove it and go point to point. hoffmanamps.com/ has replacements.

I would bring it up slowly with a variac after you start replacing parts

I have a Variac on the bench. Thanks for reminding me.

@@HomespunEffects I have actually seen one of those eyelet boards become conductive as it was so badly corroded, it had +90V on it, crazy! Im really enjoying your videos, I'm about to have a go at making my first PCB (the treble booster) in eagle thanks to you. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, friend. I'm glad that you enjoy the show.

That looks almost entirely original, certainly was some water in it at some point unfortunately, those boards shouldn't be warped like that. Check out Uncle Doug's garage here on KZbin, a gold mine of info for doing exactly what you are on this! I would reccomend looking into taking the ground switch out of the circuit as well
@HomespunEffects4 жыл бұрын
Uncle Doug is my favorite channel. I've already removed the ground switch and death capacitor. I've also rewired the switch to be between the power and the fuse.

Very interesting. Looks like it lived with a husky at one time.

GOOD for you! MESA's are great contemporary sounding amps. But if you are looking for a more vintage tonality, the Bassman shall do! I just bought a '67 Bandmaster to set beside my '62 Bandmaster. Fab amps! That "66" number has nothing to do with the year. Sounds awful! Sorry. Turn that thing off and check it out!

3 yrs have gone by... You miss the Mesa don't you??
@HomespunEffects11 ай бұрын
I did get another Mesa in a trade for my AC30. It was a Mark Five:35. I got along with it much better than the Dual Rectifier but it also found its way into a trade. I’m just not a Mesa guy. I did recently get the Fender buttoned up. I’ve got to Post some more videos about it.

@@johnmarshall3903 there are so many models and stripe colors that are supposed to be differences but they all seem to have something that I just don’t get along with. They lack the smoothness of how a good Marshall feels. … or something like that.

I'll have to trace through the circuit to find out. They are a bit dirty so don't eat them. 😋
