After all these years, a friend told me to add just a little "SMILE" at the corners of my mouth & this extra little lift or tension INSTANTLY improved the throat tones on ALL my horns! I've stopped using a sax embochure with the clarinet!!!

Hi John, just wanted to say congratulations on IMHO superior clarinet content.

Thank you. I’m picking up my clarinet after 25 years and found I dislike my throat tones. A ligature change helped but I was unaware of resonance fingerings. I’m going to get the Clarinet Fingerings book you mentioned.

Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!

Yes! Would really like a mouthpiece video. I live two hours away from a music store so I can’t really “try” before I buy. I’m an intermediate player with a Yamaha student clarinet (255, I think) and a Vandoren B45dot mouthpiece. I don’t really know what to look for when buying, I just picked on based on the Vandoren chart.

Can a brother get a bass clarinet vid from you, Sensei?
@john.kurokawa Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm. The bass clarinet is not my wheelhouse. But… I might possibly do a collab with a bass clarinet specialist…. Thanks for the suggestion!

What should a brother look for in a good mouthpiece? Thanks

That’s coming up in a future video! But… response, freedom, hold, pitch, sound.

May I ask what mouthpiece is that?

It’s a Wodkowski B1. Thanks for watching!

@@john.kurokawahow difficult is it to project over the orchestra with that mouthpiece ? Sounds rather subdued , and warm up close and with a small ensemble. People like its warmth but when however , playing with 50+ others … it’s a different story

This was an option the whole time? I demand a refund on my band teachers! Love your content, I'm going to go follow you now.❤

LOL. To be fair, band directors have so much on their plate. It's impossible to be an expert at everything, and I wouldn't be where I am were it not for some amazing band directors I had growing up. Thanks for the sub and for watching!

Can a brother find that Yamaha clarinet barrel in the United States ?????
@john.kurokawa Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, not that I know of. It was going to be commercially produced at one point I believe, but I don’t know what happened to those plans.

Thanks a lot for these useful tips. I learned some of these fingerings a long time ago from Walter Boeykens. nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Boeykens
