Fixd Automotive car sensor review: what's wrong with my car?

I’m not a mechanic, and don’t mean to appear disrespectful or condescending, but I m pretty sure that where it says ‘major driving impact’ may mean that if the detected faults are left unaddressed, it could have a major impact on how the vehicle drives. Eg. emissions, reliability, performance etc. Don’t mean to be rude, just a thought.

READ BEFORE YOU BUY All this does is scan codes, to give people an idea of what system is faulty in a car. It does not show the abs or stability control issues i have , I went with Blue Driver That gives codes to help narrow down the issues. fixed charges a monthly and yearly subscription i wish i had just got the BLUE DRIVER, there are other hand held devices some good ones for around $80.00 . This what Fix said 3 years ago and still has not done it (Currently, FIXD is able to read active check engine light. The other lights such as TPMS, ABS, Airbag, Maintenance lights, and Stability Control, are controlled by manufacturer-specific parameter identifiers, which make it difficult to communicate through the OBD-II port. We are currently working on licensing that information from the manufacturers.)

This FIXD device does something wonderful for professional mechanics: it helps them to identify the bottom 10% of the customer base and allows them to to serve the 90% who will pay what it costs to maintain a vehicle. The videos for the fixd product are "lies of omission," in that they give the false impression that a good, ethical mechanic will see a code for an oil pressure sensor and simply replace that sensor and call it "done." That is what a HACK mechanic does, not a pro. The woman shouting "I know the TRUTH" is an actor who is dramatizing a situation that is totally unfounded. A small device that talks to your phone is not the last word in diagnostics. Can it be helpful for those who don't know where to start? Sure. But it does NOT tell you "the TRUTH." The truth about any complex system will always be more complex. You see, you can have a bad sensor and you can have a good sensor reporting low oil pressure, and that needs to be investigated. With four ASE master certificates and over 50 years working on mechanical devices, I can tell you that the diagnostic literature has many steps for follow up for each OBD-2 Code, and it does NOT indicate with accuracy that the associated device is "the problem." CAVEAT EMPTOR.

What Can Fixd Diagnose? Fixd is a useful tool, but it can't diagnose everything. The general rule is that if a problem causes your "check engine" light to turn on, then Fixd can tell you why the light turned on and what type of repair you might need. Diagnosing a car is a whole lot more complicated than just reading trouble codes, and one code can be caused my multiple different problems. So even though Fixd can give you an idea of how to fix your problem, and even help you buy the replacement parts you need, complicated issues may still require the assistance of a professional mechanic.

Sooooo.... still need to bring it to your mechanic. Imagine that, you now have the codes but have no idea how to actually fix the problem or what any of the codes mean. Same information any obd reader will give you. FYI most mechanics are there to HELP you and provide a service to HELP with YOUR problem. The way this device is marketed is DISGUSTING and shows the automotive repair profession in a dim light. Do your research and find a reliable repair shop who will communicate the issues clearly. File this one under another useless gadget.

Love your vids! I believe Major Driving Impact just means that the faults detected may have a serious impact on drivability. Just a poor choice of wording by the app developer. I suspect that if the sensor found yellow-coded faults only, it would say Minor Driving Impact.

Best thing ever! I have saved thousands for simple to fix things like mass airflow sensors, camshaft sensors, etc. It also points you down a path to know so much more about your car in general. I've replaced an alternator, starter and found a clogged fuel filter (which saved my fuel pump). It did actually identify a tire pressure sensor that I paid $150 to have replaced and programmed. They installed a faulty valve stem/sensor unit and tried to tell me it was a different one. Needless to say that mechanic lost future business from me and everyone that reads my reviews on the internet. This is a "must have" for everyone.

The PCM doesn't know if you have been in an "Impact". It means this code will likely have a more serious drivability impact, unlike an EVAP code which will likely have no impact of drivability.

I recently bought a dedicated scan tool (with display) and its output is cryptic and confusing. This looks miles better (pun intended). The dedicated tool was $35, so $59 is totally worth it for the added convenience. I like the idea of using it for car shopping too. Thank you Erin!

It is garbage it will only work if the check engine light is on unless you pay an $8 a month premium, don't waist your money or your time. Items like mileage and emissions and other things are only available if you pay a monthly fee. So their using your phone to collect data on your car from a box that you paid for to sell that information back to you.

So, the reason that you had a tire pressure warning on the cluster but not the Fixd reader is because ODBII has a very specific standard set of codes it can read. However the manufacturer has additional proprietary sensors sending additional codes that aren't documented to the on board computer(s). The issue stems from the fact that the Fixd device can't read those codes or doesn't actually know what they mean. This is not a problem with the Fixd device, so don't judge it by that. This is information that you'd have to pay a lot of money to get from the manufacturer.

Diagnostic tools like this have been around for years, many at much lower prices ($25). The key to all of them however, is their accuracy. Check the reviews before you buy.

Major driving impact does not mean the car was in an accident. It means that if you continue to drive the car with that problem, it could have an impact on the car by causing even more damage.

Its literally an OBD meter thats bluetooth, You can buy one at Walmart for 19 dollar and it does the same thing. The company is presenting this product for 59 dollars likes its new but its just an obd meter

Does it tell how long ago the codes were cleared? A sales man can clear the codes before you look at the vehicle and they do not always come back right away. Looks like it could be pretty handy nonetheless.

This is why you also have to look at emissions monitors. Whether this tool does this or not I am not sure. If you have a bunch of incomplete monitors that would be your sign that the codes were just cleared. If they are all complete the vehicle has at least been drive cycled since they were cleared.

Often the major impact is continuing driving without fixing the 2 problems noted will be components of your exhaust will be coating your (very expensive) catalytic converter(s) so that it fails and may need replacement. Nothing to do with previous accident. This is not Carfax and doesn't show history.

you can buy any elm327 OBD plug on amazon for less than $10 and download torque lite for free on your phones app store. im a mechanic and ill say that its annoying hearing everyone say that all you need to do is plug in and toss a sensor onto your car and save thousands of dollars. more often than not I have to do actual repairs after customers do just that and even fix what they screwed up in the process of trying to save money. well if you want to save money on this product, I gave you a cheaper alternative that probably gives you better results than some clunky app provided by this company. in fact many repairs require proprietary software that only your vehicles manufacturer has, the days of adjusting your throttle sensor with adjustable cam slots are over. anyways, I dislike it when someone takes a virtually free idea and tries to profit off it by throwing out a few fancy words and a nice printed box, save yourself $50 and don't promote greed by forwarding this information on.

Sorry but Erin didn't do a very good review. FixD is not what it claims. The device costs $49. It costs $65 a year to subscribe to the service for it to do anything, and then it doesn't do anything if something is really wrong. It's a rip off. The review and the marketing is misleading. There are over 100 BBB complaints on record. Don't buy this device.

As far as I understand it, by law, every automobile made after the 1990s is required to have one of these ports. They can be difficult to find, but they are supposed to be there.

dont waste your money. the first thing that happens is they want to sell you a monthly subscription so the 50.00 is just the initial investment. then it does not diagnose anything but the check engine code. my truck is running like crap and it says it has no problems. i got a mass air flow sensor for about the same price as this pos ant it fixed it. waste of time and money.

For less than $20 you can get a code reader at Walmart that plugs into the obd2 port. You don't need a smart phone. You don't need to know how to blue tooth. You can erase codes (that will reappear if you don't fix problem) Why do things the hard way? You smart phone/texter types seem to like the hard way. Anyone can plug in a code reader from Walmart. None of these code readers tell you exactly what's wrong anyway. It's too bad that so much bad descriptive terminology is used by people that describe how these code readers work. The words used lead people to believe these code readers tell what the exact defective part is that needs replaced. THEY DON'T DO THAT,!!!! Tell people in EXACT DETAIL what these code readers do otherwise you are just LIARS!!!!!!

This is b's They say it tells you exactly what's wrong with your car I can tell you that there's an idiot driving it. This tool is not a mechanic and it does nothing close to telling you exactly was wrong with your car plain and simple it notifies you if a sensor is out of range. There are times sensors fail in range . In which case not only would this not tell you what's wrong with your vehicle what I would tell you the wrong thing is wrong. Also you have things like vacuum leaks Which 90% of the time present with something like an EGR code You gonna go replace your EGR is that little Box told you to when the only thing wrong is a Leaking vacuum line. Their claim Would be the same as if a doctor said they could tell whether you have Corona virus by listening to you sneeze
