I have a rescue as well. Previous owners were real bad. Took about a year to get him to put away alot of bad habits. He didnt get the lesson until i made an example of him. Now everything is alot better and he can somewhat be around ppl. But the moral of the story is they are animals and they are pack animals. You gotta establish alpha so they're is no confusion in their adult life. One hard lesson by his owner can save his life. And that key word is "one". Dogs remember when they messed up.

I've heard from other trainers you can't teach a dog to bite or lunge aggressively by telling them they're a good boy and calming them every time they want to bite and this has worked for me. My dog who's a rescue wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for telling him he's a good boy whenever people are around. All other training methods didn't work, we've even got him down to strangers petting him and him not reacting to it. Yes we even told him he's a good boy and all that while he was snarling and it would instantly calm him down. I feel like there is a situation for this and judging on my dogs behavior all it does is reassure him that he's doing good by staying back and let's him know I'm there and not to be scared

All for the prong, we in fact use one on our dog. Great tool when used and warn correctly. That however was an extremely harsh correction. No need to put all your body behind making that collar pinch. All you accomplished was scaring the shit out of the dog and I’m sure hurting the dog. Unnecessary correction.

@Kate Mohr Thats exactly why it wears a prong or even an E-collar. Allow the tools to do the work. No need to put extra spice behind the tools. A hard corrective snap from the wrist/ arm is more than enough. Believe me I know the power behind some of these breeds. I have a Bull Terrier and a Mastiff X. Still doesn't justify putting all your body behind the use of the tools to get the dog to fly up in the air.

@@kylea7864 I do agree with what you’re saying usually however in this case I think the yank was a correction combined with literally trying to pull the dog away from being hit by that car. Many trainers helps owners free of cost but some dog owners have more extra money to spend on trainers. Those owners hiring private trainers to handle their aggresive dog behaviours like attacking cars or other dogs dont realise to this day that all they need to do is pull back that lease hard when they acts aggresive. Like yank hard and dont forget the muzzle for everyones safety🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ simple

We have the same problem. Next door our neighbours have two border collies both about a year old. The village we live in has tiny gardens definitely not enough for two very energetic dogs like them. To make matters worse they don't take the dogs on walks and instead let them wander the tiny garden shitting everywhere (the owners don't pick it up despite having two small children) and barking at the smallest signs of movement. We can't use our garden now because they will lunge at the fence line barking

My parents have two dogs that are now nearly 9 years old. We all know they are too strong for my mother; I used to walk the dogs with her when they were younger. The dogs both pull and act like they lead the walk because she never takes control in the walk. They have even dragged her chasing rabbits twice. I say all of this because BOTH of those dogs instantly learn with me they are not allowed to pull on the leash under any circumstances when I walk them. Sure, the dog in my control and their sibling get nervous when I walk slower, but everyone knows I am in control of the dog. I spent a solid few years helping get the dogs out of their bad habbit, but as soon as I left they got back to it. Its a shame really. Now whenever I walk my own dog, a neighbor actually walked up to me and asked me how my dog's leash is always so lax and she is always next to me. I find it interesting.

Animals respond based off of your tone of voice and the type of energy you’re giving them. If they are being bad in ANY way and you start petting them and baby talking them and so on then all they hear and see is that you are happy and satisfied with that type of behavior so they start to do it more and more thinking it’s good and that you will give them positive attention. You don’t want to give them positive attention until they are behaving because then they will start to see “oh this is the right way to behave and if I follow what I’m supposed to I get treats and attention”

When she tries to tell him off to leave the table area he has bitten her. I think she needs to get a professional help by training. This has caused issues because my daughter invited us for lunch but we had to refuse but we can't let her know that my husbands mom divulged about the doberman and the biting events. My mother in law told me not to repeat what she told me as she would telephone to report the dog to the authorities. Please help!!

My technique is this, to even get out the cage (I'll put them in the cage to start the process) they have to be perfect. Open the cage without them running out, putting the leash on, they have to follow me inside the house no jetting ahead, open the door without them gunning out and now we're ready to walk. The requirements do seem like a bit much but after that, walking by a barking dog isn't a nightmare, cars won't be much of an issue, it's all chill. And the punishment is a reset to the previous step or a tug on the leash. Another thing is you can just randomly stop and they're supposed to be paying some attention to you. They feel whenever they're ahead of you based on the leash itself. If they're not stopping, tug. I hope this mini essay helps.

The only thing I would add would be rewarding for the dog doing the right thing and the inhibition has been built

The reward was there. Head rub and praise work way better than bribes (food). And you always have those handy...

@juliagoodfellow7539 it's not a bribe, think direct and indirect rewarding. Food is faded out over time, and a lot of dogs don't give a shit about praise.

Can this same correction be used if a person walks by instead of the car driving by

I need either a slip lead or a choke collar for my 5 month old pup.. she jumps at people because she's wanting attention and wanting to play whilst we're walking. She also started barking and growling and trying to lunge at other dogs just because she wants to play with them too 🤦🏻‍♂️. A choke collar will probably help with pulling on the lead too.

Sir I need help hopefully you can answer. I have 2 dogs one of them is a husky; and everytime I walk one of them ( she the husky gets left ) behind ). She screama and cries like hell scratching the gate and almost tearing her vocal cords ( metaphorically ). Anyways problem is I walk my dogs at 4:00 so with this behavior the whole neighborhood gets woken up and obviously it's not pleasant. I tried walking her first, but she still continued with that behavior. Any suggestions what I do ?

I have a neighbor every time her dog barks or try’s to attack. They tell it, let’s go inside and get a treat. That dog needs serious training

You should tell them, approach them respectfully as their dog might hurt someone
