Worked like a champ. I always wear a hole in my right big toe. I wear expensive running socks and it drives me nuts to have holes. The light bulb trick was awesome thank you!

I cant believe all the positive comments! This is going to be soooo uncomfortable. Holes in socks need darning not sewing up like it was a seam. you won't feel the repair if it's darned and the sock will be just a comfortable as it was when new and darning isn't difficult

TIP: use the light bulb, but instead of ordinary thin thread, use thicker embroidery thread and leap across the open hole running the thread in a grid pattern and you'll KEEP THE SHAPE and cover the hole at once.

That's what I do. If you don't pull it tight you can weave enough stitches to fill in the missing material.

Been sewing sock holes for years. If you see a SMILE on your sock, fold it another way until the sock fibers are flatter. Socks look and feel better on your foot. The only smile should be on your face.

Thank you! In Spain we use a wooden egg. A real egg, carefully handled, would do the trick the same. But the light bulb is also a great idea, thanks! Keep warm and happy enough in this marvelous winter! A man in a small white town in central Spain.

I love the thread 3x around the needle for knotting instead of fumbling with individual tying when finished. Ingenious! Thank you!

fantastic video, thank you! sewing / darning is a skill I dont have. every time I try, everything I do unravels in days. the anchor of wrapping the thread around the needle is what i need to know - thanks again.

I am glad I am not the only one who repairs my socks like this. I work as a patient transport tech at my local hospital and I walk around ten miles a day so I am always wearing holes in my socks. I love saving money. There also is a sort of pleasure stretching the use of unseen things out like boxers and socks.

Darning is a more elegant fix - you're re-weaving the material but gads it's a time-consuming, tedious exercise.
