@hector10908 Ever since 2019, joycon repairs have been free ever since because of the lawsuit. I got my defective joycon replaced with a newer model for free which is pretty good.

Thank you! I have 3-4 of these joycons with this problem. What is the diameter of the wire you used for the jumpers?
@bradyrepairs77354 жыл бұрын
The wire with the insulation on is 0.02 inches (0.5mm) and without the insulation 0.01 inches (0.25mm). I am using left over wire scraps from a PlayStation 1 MM3 modchip I bought, but the linked wire is basically the same and the type I would have used if I didn't have these scraps laying around. www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/remington-industries/28UL1007SLDGRE/11614240

I used 0.32 inch (8mm) 60/40 leaded solder. I don't remember if I used any in the video, but I highly recommend using some flux to help the solder flow better and stick to what you want it to. That being said don't use plumbing flux from the hardware store that stuff will ruin your board.

What do I do when my button will work when I tear the con apart, but won't when it's back together. So weird. Did something come loose? I dropped my switch on the button now it won't work but the ZR button still works.
@mmaitin9923 жыл бұрын
So my R microbutton isn't separated from the board, it just needs to be stabilized and I believe it'll be good. What would I do to stabilize it so it'll be usable again?
@nightzed98904 жыл бұрын
hi! where would you jump the pads on the either side of the button to? the pads on the side on my joycon are damaged
@bradyrepairs77354 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about the two pads the housing connects to you would need to use some glue to hold the button down since those are mostly used for stability of the button. Be careful though if you use glue that none of it gets into the button because it will seize the button and keep it from working. That being said they should also be ground pads so if you want to jump them anywhere find a ground point on the board.

If the pads are fine can I just solder or glue gun the piece back on?
@bradyrepairs7735 Жыл бұрын
Don't use a glue gun it won't make an electrical connection. If the pads are fine resoldered the original or a new button. The two pads on the sides of the button are anchors and their whole purpose is to add structural support to the button.
@raycarey21 Жыл бұрын
@@bradyrepairs7735 thanks for that. Are they originally soldered on because they're fairly weak it seems. Do I soldered the little side parts also?
@bradyrepairs7735 Жыл бұрын
@@raycarey21 yes solder the side parts as well those are anchor points for strength. One of the negatives of the lead free solder everyone uses now is its fairly brittle compared to the old school leaded stuff. For alot of applications it's fine but for buttons like this that get knocked around its not as strong because of the brittlness.
@raycarey21 Жыл бұрын
@@bradyrepairs7735thanks again. That answers it. Wonder why they chose lead free for such an application. They're expensive enough to buy so should be more solid. Great video
@bradyrepairs7735 Жыл бұрын
@@raycarey21 There's international agreements to use lead free solder because leaded solder will leach lead into the ground water over time if it is thrown into a landfill. It's all part of being rohs complient and was done with good intentions regarding the environment. It just has the negative of its harder to work with lead free and it has different properties that make it potentially more prone to failure.

Will this also work with the L Button? Is there anything else I could use other than the Hot-Melting-Pen-Thingy? How did you unscrew the joycon? How did you put it back together?
@bradyrepairs77354 жыл бұрын
I don't believe the pads are the same on the left Joy-Con, but if you can expose any of the copper under the traces you could use a multimeter in continuity mode to figure out where on the board the pins are connected. You would have to solder the pins to the jumper spots on the board. Nothing else would make a secure or reliable enough connection. If you would like to know how to take a joy-con apart either search Joy-Con disassembly or teardown on KZbin or check out a disassembly/teardown guide at ifixit.com.
