I would have cleaned the parts a bit better and run a fresh bead on the casting so that the cast part gets compress thus removing dirt and voids.By doing so you'll notice that the cast aluminium will sink in slightly and that the new filler flows perfectly .Let it cool down , clean again and weld the plug in. No peppering just a nice perfect weld.

there are always some impurities that you pull out of the cast itself ... welding a casting is pretty much never clean .... some "cleaner"(ish) than others ... but one of them I welded or I have ever seen welded by other was really clean ...

its a manual transmission, it can handle a little aluminum debris. If it were an automatic there might be reason for concern.

Any “chunks” are going to live on the bottom and never be an issue. Particles that might move with the gear oil will not do any harm to the steel gears.

how much did the dealership want to fix their mistake ? you saved that guy alot of money .

Was wondering that myself, also dealer should have repaired at their cost they broke it, most likely using an impact to put the plug back in.

transmission full of acetone fumes, Ha!! might have washed it with an acid brush dipped in acetone. How did the dealer pass off that damage? That rod looks like the right tool for the job!

I'm not sure why you feel like you need to justify yourself, Peter You're a damn good welder, it's a fine job and you show it like it is.

What did the dealer do for you for this dumb move??

The dealer paid the guy who’s transmission that was $600 and told the guy to go get lost. That guy then sold the broken transmission to another guy, who brought it to me to fix it for him. So dealer paid $600 to the original owner of the car, that guy had a new to him (used) trans put in and sold the broken one.

What's the dealers name? So I know to never go there.

@@deanbutler3994 lol.. no kidding. I have had a dealer touch anything of mine since 1988! I was for a shitty audi and was warranty work.
