Fixing a Modern Digital DAB+ AM/FM Portable Radio Receiver Laser Model DAB DG200AM - Won't Turn On.

This repair was more involved than I was originally anticipating - and I must say, I'm rather disappointed at the build quality of this unit! Not to mention how difficult it was to get into for repair work. Warning - video may contain a small rant! 😉😆

You are right, they are made to be not opened and attempted to be fixed. If you do get in, its made bad enough so most will give up. Truly a darn shame they went this way.

Hey Chris if it hot glue. U can turn can of compressed air upside down spray it and it freezes the glue and it breaks away. Cheers for interesting vid mate.

That was a nice fix especially when they don't make it easy... oh I just had a thought... how does the reading compare with your box of replacement capacitors? do they vary widely or are they pretty good? I can tell you're chuffed because you've finally justified picking up the selection pack!

Thanks Martin. I did check the new ones before installing them and they were all consistently well within spec. Of course, they may not have a long life in circuit as the selection pack was pretty cheap!

You know, I didn't even consider that initially! If I hadn't of found dodgy caps, I would have checked the switch eventually!

How do you recycle the batteries? Can you scrap them?

I just take them to the local transfer station where they have a bin especially for batteries. I must find out how they deal with them one day!

They are very cheap actually. I think the whole assortment was only about $25!

@@freedomfighter8958 Certainly not for any scrap value. And not worth saving for parts value - although occasionally I pluck one off an old board for a repair job if I don't have a new one in stock 👍
