I used baking soda with vinegar and water and created a paste, then I put a slab and generous amount of it on the rusty part and let it sit for 10 min. After that I took a harsh scrubber 🧽 and scrubbed it off. Worked great and then got microwave cavity paint (spray bottle) and it’s good as new

I was so surprised that this happened to my microwave, but relieved when i found your video and saw all the comments as well. I always wiped out the visible interior after use, BUT i kept a paper plate over the glass plate to catch any spills and never really looked underneath until i heard grinding and then i was horrified at the rust and stains. Also can confirm that is rust and not dirt at the bzck edge. I never had the rotating kind before this one and didn't realize this could be a problem! Thanks for your video, well done.

To stop rust leave your microwave open after use, this will allow it to dry out inside, also don't damage the paint or just buy a microwave that's stainless steel inside.

2nd microwave to have hole in it and spark leaving awful smell. Had no idea of what was happening until this research. I clean the microwave as I do the dishes but sadly,I never thought about removing the part with the wheels and cleaning it. I've cleaned every other area and could not figure out WTH was happening. Our microwave is about 2 years old and she's a beaut. Was a gift from my son. When I saw that spark coming through a hole on the floor of microwave, I immediately unplugged it. I'll be purchasing that kit and unfortunately another less expensive microwave. Wish I had checked and researched before now. I assumed when it happened the first time; the microwave was just old. Wrong. I wasn't cleaning the wheels:( Damn. Damn. Damn.

i have just ordered the fix kit for the interior of my microwave. This is a fault that most microwaves have. The condensation does not evaporate and it al pools in areas such as under the plate , on the ledge of the door and in the edges where the metal meets at the back. I know dry out my micro all the time and leave the door open. I noticed that they have 'cavity microwave paint', in spray form, available in the USA, but not in the UK - but can get it sent over via ebay . I think the spray would be better to blend in without brush strokes being seen, but could be costly to have it posted from USA. You did a great job here. Thanks for sharing your video, I am sure a lot of people appreciate the tutorial before they start on their microwave.
@RPKGameVids4 жыл бұрын
The paint that I used wasn't that good, after a few months it started melting and bubbling up. I've seen cavity spray paint too which is in America, maybe that would be better. Anyway, I've got a new microwave now, I always dry after cooking something and I'll leave the door open. I really don't know how the water makes the metal rust under the paint as surely the water cannot pass through the paint. So I've got no idea how it happens.
@kenn19364 жыл бұрын
@@RPKGameVids It does - just like in cars. mostly at weak points. Under the plate the little wheels that make the plate go round creates friction, which will eventually erode the paint. same as any joins in the interior at the back especially. I have ordered the kit anyway, but if this continues, I too will just get a new one. I think it is a design fault as it appears to happen to most microwaves. I am surprised that they cannot create a seamless interior, with technology today, and a plate that rotates without the plastic bit under it. This never happens with a traditional oven, because it is dry heat and not steam/condensation . I dry the interior out after every use and leave the door open just like yourself. It is the only way to prevent any build up of moisture.

what's weird about this microwave is, it seems to be stainless steel on the outside. I commend you for extending its life and reducing your fingerprint to the environment. if it happens again maybe try a strong epoxy like r-180. I spilled some on my driveway 20 years ago and its never worn or cracked off, 20 years of weather and driving on it.

I like to keep things going for as long as possible for some reason. I still use a 22 year old CRT monitor, a 12 year old computer, and a 16 year old car, etc. Once something stops working properly and I'm unable to fix it, that's when I'll get rid of it and get something brand new, or second hand and newer. The paint did bubble up again around 2 months later, I think it was a combination of having it on for a long time (around 20 mins I think), and there being some water on the bottom from whatever it was I was cooking. The paint basically bubbled and melted. So I repainted it, and now I just make sure if I'm going to have it on for more than 10 mins (which is rare, 95% of time whatever it is that I'm cooking or heating up is for 5 mins or less), I will stop the microwave at around 10 mins, open the door, wipe up any water that might be on the bottom, let things cool for around a minute, and then put it on again. It sounds more inconvenient than it is. But it's now several months later and the paint is still fine.

@@RPKGameVids I I have a Microwave with the same issues. And I painted it, after (first) neutralising the rust with phosphoric acid. Then paint. The same problem always returns! However, I don't like to throw away Appliances for ecological reasons. My next plan is to remove all rust. THEN - set the Microwave level in all directions. Mix up some two-part Epoxy, and pour around the rusted circle. I think this might just work. There is an awful lot of point-pressure placed on the painted surface - from the contact with the three small wheels. If the Microwave is perfectly level, the epoxy should flow evenly around the circle. Trial and Error, as one guy below says. Good on you for trying! Greetings from Australia.

Thankyou thankyou - i was laughing so much and repeating things you said... you are the closest creation to a split-apart for me i have every experienced. You kept saying out loud the things i say in my head. While i was laughing i kept sputtering out "you dont have to say that". I believe its the WAY you said things, so calm and matter-if-fact like. When they found out it was you and this GREAT video, i saw them look at each other, then at me and one of them said "whats so funny"? And i went right on repeating stuff you would say and i could feel healing all thru me and laughing and trying to explain.... you were me, unencumbered, yet you, in a lovely refreshing way - to me. It was beautiful. I couldnt tell if you were doing it on purpose or if it was just you being yourself. I prefer the latter and you keep doing you. ♡¿♡ [i've never done this before and somebody will probably say "thats stupid. dont do it that way. do it like this"... but just remember this is my first time of doing this.....] PRICELESS

I did read up on patching rust holes in the microwave and it says it's ok to use like epoxy for the holes. That way your wheels will travel over ruff spots better. Than, as for paint, any appliance paint, preferably heat resistant, will work. Spray always comes out better than brushing. I had an old microwave that actually had holes from the rust. I went ahead and bought a new one, our outside had become extremely yellowed by the florescent lights, so looked terrible. But it worked very well. So I plan on repairing the insde and donate it to a cause. I am hoping being a non baked on finish, it won't hurt anyone. But id say as long as you cant smell it, it's safe. It is a 200 dollar microwave, so if someone can pay 20 bucks at goodwill. It'd be a decent purchase for someone short of funds. The color match was decent. Probably could have used a couple more coats. You don't see under the dish anyway. You did fine.

Prevention is better than cure. Problem is people don't mop up the condensation after use especially when there is a lot of moisture, two seconds to dry the the cavity and door. Rub down the effected area with a medium wet/dry sandpaper until clear of any rust and give it a few coats of oil based model enamel with a light rub down after each coat. Job done. Do not pay extortionate prices for what is really just paint. Make sure it is completely dry before use, absolutely harmless.
