I highly recommend threading the bolt thay holds the wedge in on the other side, and using a stack of washers, sockets, whatever to gently pull it out before you start hammering on it. A generous application of penetrant wont hurt either.

Yeah I tried that as well and had sprayed penetrant daily over the course of a week or so. I think it would work in some cases, but for me brute force ended up being the only option…that or a large shop press which I unfortunately don’t have.

Nice job getting the stock eccentric out of the shell! I have the same frame, and currently have mine set up with the stock bb - but I can't use any other gear ratio than what I have on it at the moment because, like yours, mine's stuck. However, I may just leave it as is, because I don't know if I feel like springing $90 plus shipping for the Carver (but good to know they still make them as replacements!).

Yeah the new EBB was pricey, but I got the bike for a good deal so overall I don’t have that much money into the bike.

Hope you did not trash the old eccentric, I would try if you can and run a tap through what ever treads were damaged. That friction tape would make me nervous . Never had a eccentric SS , my old Jamis Dragon's 2009 and 2013 were sliding drops outs same as my 2 Surly Karate Monkey's 2019 and 2021 so I am biased towards sliders with a chain tug. I enjoy your videos and look forward to more of them!

Nope I didn't trash it. I plan to tap it at some point, but this new one is working great for now. The main reason I ended up getting another one was that the stock ones were supposed to have major creaking issues and I didn't want to deal with that.

I would try a product like _ (never seize) and coat the eccentric and the wedge well so there is no visible bare spot anywhere including the frame opening for the eccentric .

Do not remove the eccentric hub this way. Leave the silver set screw in and put your Allen through the hole to the wedge bolt and unscrew. It will push against the set screw and push out the wedge.

Terrible idea! Commuter bike frames are not as strong as mountain bike frames, if you are going to use it for mountain biking... If still for commuting then it doesn't matter :)

This bike in particular is actually a mountain bike, but someone had put really skinny tires, narrow bars, and gave up on actually fixing the EBB so it wasn’t quite ready for any trails.
