Thanks for the clear and simple instructions - this is the solution that I'll use for the various pump bottles that I've decided to re-use/recycle/repurpose around the house now. The soap dispensers especially would occasionally play up in this way, so the ongoing mystery of the intermittent pumping is now solved to my satisfaction. Much appreciated, and keep up the good work!!

What a fucking champ. This man had a problem and did he fix it and leave it to himself? No, he found what worked for him and said you know what? The world needs to know this. I can do something good in the world and help somebody with their soap dispensing needs. God bless this man, doing God's work out here, goddamn.

I was searching how to fix my sunscreen pump after ripping the spout off. Your video helped me snap the device apart and work things out. Good job. 👍

Probably the best video that worked for me. The toughest part, really, is understanding all the parts you should expect to find upon disassembly, the order they go in, and understanding that they are mostly all snap-fit (not a lot of unscrewing) and that takes patience and care so you don't disfigure and spoil any parts for reassembly. My pump had some crystallized white material inside that was preventing the pump from working and I had to remove it all (probably some cheap soap tha the wife used for a re-fill...)

Thank you for your comment! Fully agree on the cheap soap. I’ve noticed the same thing, that quality soap does not have any issues with the pump, but cheap soap simply does not want to work properly with it.

This is fantastic! I have exactly the same problem. I didn't know that I could push the pump out without breaking the top! I'll give it a try.

Thank you! You fixed my proboelm. I didn't need an o-ring, but needed to push down to make sure the connection between the metal pump and the plastic piece was tight.

RJ, I would like to say as first time subscriber to any site, and find your instructional videos very helpful, keep up the great work. However i have a problem with a spray bottle and attempted to follow your video to soak the tube. My problem is that the trigger released a small ball bearing the size I presume as a size of a pedal ball bearing and unaware where it came from. Can you assist me in repairing it. Secondly, thanks for all the tips for home made tools, I made a headset remover and headset cup press, they came in very handy. Thirdly, I was not able to find the finished restoration of the 1954 Indian Scout Project. Is there any video on the finished project. Have a good week and looking forward to your reply. Joshua

I had this problem and what I found out was it was the dish soap causing my problem. I realize that there are other things that could go wrong but the dish soap I was using was clogging up the pump to the point that I could not even push down the pump to dispense the soap. My sister told me she was having a problem with her kitchen sink drainings slowly and she uses Dawn Dish soap. A light bulb went off and I thought maybe that's my problem too. So I took it apart and cleaned all the Dawn out of it and put warm water in it pumping it to make sure all the soap was out of the dispenser tube and filling it with another kind of soap Meyers Dish soap and volla it's now working.

Aint nobody got time for that lol. Just unscrew the pump from the soap & soak it in warm water & start pumping. As stated, with water adding pressure to the dispenser area, it will start to pump again. Give it a few good pumps & if possible(depending on the type) remove the dispenser from the hose like the guy did in this videos. Beware, you likely have a tiny metal ball(like a bb gun ball) inside thats super easy to lose down a drain. You want dried lotion/soap to leave this area hence the warm water. Once warm water has been flushed through the thing, any clogs are melted, thinned down, & removed & the pressure intended for the device goes back to normal(thanks to that metal ball which already helps add suction inside of the hose w/o the added pressure that comes from doing what this guy did). Losing that metal ball however causes a great amount of suction to be lost. In other words dont lose the ball nor even remove the dispenser from the hose if you think youll lose it. Its very tiny & if you lose it youll need a new pump or youll always have inconsistent suction problems that require you to do the method in this video. So again, just use the warm water trick & make sure you do a thorough job before returning the pump to the soap/lotion bottle. Just because you see water spray through doesnt mean its unclogged but rather spraying the water out is the unclogging process & you need to keep pumping in the warm water for about a minute straight or let it soak. Also, be patient when pumping it again once you return it to the bottle because it sometimes takes a few good pumps to get the pressure back right. If after 12 pumps it isnt working, repeat the process or consider that you lost your ball or never had one & need to do it like in this video. Good luck driving to the store to buy a silly rare hard to find rubber ring.
@Mandy_392 жыл бұрын
O-rings are definitely not rare & easy to find! Your method works fine for clogs but not to trap air to force the suction needed.

We have a beloved hand pump by our sink but it just stopped pumping soap. We’re all bummed. It’s been through 2 house fires and a flood. It’s one of three things we have left from the past. We don’t want a new pump on the top of the bottle. We want to fix it but don’t know how. We’ve tried many methods to prime it but nothing works. We noticed bubbles coming up from between the outer cap and the piece that goes through the cap. If anyone has any ideas we’d all greatly appreciate it. That’s the only thing we have to remember granny for. She bought it for us just before we lost her. We used to think about her every time we washed our hands and used that soap dispenser. It’s the little things that matter. We miss you granny 🥲.

Why don’t they make them with o rings? Seems like a stupid design. I hate engineers.
