Yesterday at 1am I was just watching this guy restore a rusty knife and now at 2am, I’m watching this dude restoring a rusty iron that KZbin recommended me. Honestly, I’m not mad bout it, I love his videos. It’s so satisfying :D

I love that he took the time to paint the engravings of Mt. Fuji. it really lends a unique charm to the iron. beautiful! (also when he peels off the tape in one piece.... super satisfying)
When I was 10 years old, in 1969, I was on holiday with my family in a rural village in northern Italy. I still remember seeing a housewife in a farmhouse ironing some clothes with a similar iron hot with embers inside. She would take the embers from the lit fireplace or fire cooking stove.

My mom had one of these when she was younger, a headache and a half to use without burning anything. Nice to see some are still around and functioning, although she'd probably tell you to put that on the shelf and get an electric one.

the secret for using these types of iron is if its too hot first you have to shove it in dry soil or sand or dried banana leaves
