There is a reason why engineers generally use 55°C as the ambient temperature for validation. It isn't that uncommon to reach 45°C in the shade summer and that's in the cooler southern states. And you have to consider the air being heated by the device itself, direct sunlight etc.

0:20 Tehcnically it's "passively convecting heat away", not "passively radiating heat away". It is true that a tiny amount of heat is lost due to radiation, i.e. the surface of the macbook does reject some amount of heat as photons (this is what IR cameras pick up on to sense temperature), but the vast majority of heat rejected is due to passive convection, not radiation. And before someone tries to argue this, I will also point out that "radiators" as most people know them are actually water-to-air heat exchangers, which chiefly utilize forced (or passive if there are no fans) convection. So calling them "radiators" is actually a very poor name. Just look at the fourth sentence in the wikipedia entry for Radiator: "Despite the name, most radiators transfer the bulk of their heat via convection instead of thermal radiation." Yes I am an engineer and I am great at parties. Jk don't be silly I don't go to parties.

The heat problem in the case or the battery problem can be solved by placing the MacBook Air on an aluminium disc about 4-5 mm thick and about 200 mm in diameter. The heat is then transferred to the desk via the rear casing, which heats up considerably, via the aluminium round plate that lies directly against the casing. This worked particularly well for me as my desk has a glass top and this absorbs the heat well. Wood alone may not be so good. In my case, the centre of the disc is roughly where the CPU is. This means that the disc protrudes slightly beyond the Macbook Air.
