Fixing black screen on GE sunsmart digital timer
I just wanted to post this quick video for those having a « black screen » on their GE Sunsmart digital timer, in case it helps anyone. This happened recently after more of a decade without any issue ever : suddenly the digital screen of this timer (that commands my outdoor porch light) went totally black (the thing was off) and on top of that I couldn’t even turn the light on by pressing the plate switch : it wouldn’t turn on nor off, as it used to be when it was functioning. Reading online that a fuse might be the problem or a wiring issue, I was worried I had to call someone. Before anything I tripped the circuit breaker that controls this part of the house to see if it would fix the problem but nothing. Then I looked for a on / off button behind the plate switch (where all the little programming buttons are) : that’s when I noticed a « reset » button that’s not protruding like all the other programming buttons. With a clip I pressed it and bingo the screen went alive again and I could activate the light again. All that remained to do for me was to set the time properly again and program the timer to turn on and off my outdoor lights automatically at set times.
It’s fine and working now and was a super easy fix, no need to unmount the thing, nothing. This has never happened in more than a decade since I had this digital timer installed. So in case it helps someone, I posted this quick video.
