I've been waiting for a game like this for about 30 years and the only thing close to it is Fire Pro Wrestling World, No Mercy and Here Comes The Pain. Then there are plenty of awesome Japanese wrestling games, but only in Japanese.

This popped into my feed randomly and I have to say this is a really well thought out and presented video, great work sir. I wish either AEW or Yukes would reach out to the community to roadmap these things. There is a wealth of knowledge and a huge ammount of potential with Fight forever or any potential sequal. It just feels like it's falling on deaf ears at the moment. Hopefully that changes!

For now, I'm playing Fight Forever on the highest difficulty: creative advocate. Zyddie did say that he watched it and forwarded it in one of his feedback reports, so I'm taking it as far as I can as an a regular gamer with no influence :)

I feel a great middle point for this game would be look at the older SvR or Smackdown series. They had limits, yet provided the variations needed to create something distinct yet within the confines. Hell people still are creating modern wrestlers in here comes the pain. Just simple things like generic logos to manipulate to add some depth to a face or recreate certain attire parts would majorly help. Look at something like WWE 12 to 2k14. They had limits yet we've seen so many great creations done with some limits.

Really nice video! I have to admit my faults because a few days ago I absentmindedly watched the video and after the first screen of the 25 edits I thought "Ok, another person who wants an unrealistic overhaul of the mode". I took my time to watch it and I can say that your video is perfect, and I am not a CAW guy (even in wwe2k I don't like to use them). By the way, from a gameplay perspective, the last time I found a wrestling game as good, fun and satisfying as AEW:FF was WWE 2K14. I just hope they continue to support it, I mean TK constantly signs a lot of big names, they have big and fan favourites names like Edge, Samoa Joe, Castagnoli, Saraya etc. under contract... If they insist on pushing the development of this game, I think that any DLC would be an easy money maker. And with that money they could build a more solid CAW mode, new match types, new gears, arenas etc...

I honestly think that even the stuff that's deemed "Unrealistic" is more than reasonable with a company like Yuke's behind things. Especially when a lot of that stuff, we got in the SVR games that came out 15 years ago. That being said, you nailed this video, I don't think there was a time that I absolutely didn't agree. One thing that I would throw in, as a way to improve the sharing option, is a "Code" feature for the creations kinda like how they did it in the Mass Effect games. You could share your Shepard across between PS and Xbox by entering a code at the bottom of the creation menu in Mass Effect, and it would set your Commander the exactly how it was when the code was made. That would be a way to get around the issue of community creations, and not having to constantly go back and forth between looking at the formula and looking at the options to make sure you selected the correct ones.

That's brilliant! Someone else suggested QR codes which I thought was a great idea but I wasn't sure how it would work to get the scanned formula back into the game. Sounds like the Mass Effect model would be perfect.

Thanks! I think a lot of the frustration people have is justified. But personally I don't see anything to be gained looking at it from a negative perspective, especially since the goal is to get the devs to consider honing in on stuff wrestling gamers care about. I hope they do, but also in being realistic there is nothing officially announced at the moment so it could go either way.

This really just absolutely nailed what would improve this game vastly for me. I like playing this game and I think it's fun, but the character creation is such a big portion of what gives wrestling games such long, long lives. I was even going through to make my own roster, but having to do a full Road to Elite for every single character really burned me out. I seem to recall community creations being something that were offered and rejected early on in the process, but brought back up near the end of development, so if there's any chance those can be implemented I think it would do so much for this game.

I know this is the first AEW game for major consoles and PC platforms so it's normal for building a foundation for future games in this franchise. But this is not Yuke's first wrestling game as they have been making wrestling games for many a decade now. So I would think they could just copy and paste the best Creation features, among others, from the old WWE games into AEW FF with some improvements where needed. Sadly still can't use our own music like in the XBox360/PS3 days either.

They built this game from the ground up in Unreal, so even though they've done these things before they're kinda starting back at the beginning here. I think they would've come closer if they had more time/money/etc.

Love all your suggestions although I don’t think they’re going to add sliders but adding all the existing roster’s parts and allowing us to recolour them would be a game changer. The restrictions of items that can be put together are very annoying. They got a Bret Hart type costume but don’t let you put a jacket with it for example 🤯 Agree on the accessories being available as entrance only. Super annoying they’re not. No one wears glasses in a match. Just even put them all in the entrance attire section and make them available to set for entrance only or in ring too like you can with tops (including jackets as you could put a manager in a suit but they’d have no top ringside). Tattoos are a big problem too. There’s not a single option for full sleeves which tons of wrestlers have. Being able to use in game wrestlers’ tattoos would help a lot but allowing multiple tattoos to be selected would help too. Definitely should be able to change attires of existing wrestlers too and the street clothes options is a waste of time if you can’t use them in ring as nobody’s playing through RTE with every wrestler. Let’s hope they do something to improve it soon.

CAW is a major reason people play wrestling games. If they just gave the option to create or uploading logos it would help immensely. They could just use all the wrestlers body's and outfits an allow people to color swap them would be better than what they have now.

What sucks is it seems say for the pin system, the gameplay in ring has been well received. This definitely seems like a learning experience for the dev team. While you don't need an extremely super in depth system like 2k games. There has to he a happy middle ground. Look at games like the Aki games, or the fire pro series. They had a certain confines yet provided enough tools for players to make it work. And work well at that.

17:09 - Had to fire up the game to see something and what would the purpose of copying a ring attire over to entrance attire do if the ring attire is always part of the entrance attire? If your ring attire is a pair of trunks, kneepads, and boots, you have that on in your entrance. 18:04 - Using the left and right directions on the left joystick lets you cycle through moves faster.

17:09 - The purpose of copying a ring attire to an entrance attire (17:09) would only be valuable if they also implemented 18 Set Entrance Attire Separately (16:27). Because then you'd have more control over both (so you could do stuff like using suit jackets for in-ring or wearing sunglasses only for entrances), but without 'copy to' it would create the annoyance of having to re-make the entrance attire every time. So if they implemented both we'd get more flexibility without sacrificing convenience. 18:04 - True! But even the fast cycle still takes a very long time to go from the top of the list to the middle/bottom.

@@tom_wears_glasses they’re very reminiscent of the aki games. 2 of my favorite things they had was interrupting moves which was huge for multi player matches with your friends… and till this day they have the best hell in a cell. You have space to fight ringside & you could even climb the cell from the inside. This was a great alternative to the smackdown franchise

Do you mean CAWs or the regular roster? For CAWs - you can equip a shirt from 'Tops' from Entrance Attire - then it'll ask you if you want to wear it in the ring also. It's confusing. If you mean regular roster members - I made a mod that gives you more interesting shirts on PC but I'm hoping they make it a regular feature for everyone.

Yea I rarely play as actual wrestlers or have mained actual wrestlers, I always create a certain handful of wrestlers/characters in any game and build that character up. FF really put me off with that super limited CAW feature. Tried to create so Asian wrestkers and they literally all have the same face 😂

Good ideas on making the creation suite better in AEW. Sadly if they cannot meet the standards set by WWE 2k or even Fire pro series in terms of options then its going to always be sub par. Especially for those who create their own wrestlers and Efeds. And they charged a full $60 for the game. A game that they should have charged only $29.99 to $39.99 for. At least those prices it would have lessened the blow of much of the criticism. I also feel there is a disconnect between AEW and Yukes. It comes down to how much Tony Khan is willing to spend. And THQ wanting to make a game that they can be proud of as a company. I knew that the game was going to have issues. When Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes was trying to lower expectations 2 yrs before the game came out. And AEW was marketing the game as an "alternative". To more sensible and long time consumers. Saying something is going to be an "alternative" is akin to saying your product is at best a good knock off or at worst just a sub par derivative product. Sadly for the the AEW game its the latter for now.

Your ideas are awesome but I hate to be the pessimist dude when I say I believe they specifically designed the game to "force" DLC purchases and that won't change in the near future. The lack of options was done on purpose IMO, not due to a lack of time. With character packs first announced as DLCs I knew they would make the CAW aspect of the game as limited as possible. Overall they went the easy way for themselves and made it as difficult as possible for people to make more of what the game offered. I've been a AEW fan before the first Dynamite aired on TV, watched the free PPVs and all that... I didn't fall for the trap though, and I'm glad I didn't. Hopefully they turn this game upside down in the future but I wouldn't keep my hopes up too much.

I think it's fair and justified to pessimistic about the game. As far as what we'll get in the future - all that's confirmed is another fix patch and that they're working with a third party on the Steam audio issue. Even Season 2 paid DLC is still speculation. But whether they've figured it out or not yet, they'll make more DLC money by boosting the game's sales and generating continuing interest. Which is only gonna happen if they add more engaging content (options, match types, creative assets, etc.). People that skipped or dropped the game aren't gonna buy more character DLC if they don't have a reason to load up the game in the first place.

This game and the teams behind it have so far been extremely mod friendly. They even host mod discussions on the official AEW Games Discord. They're 1000% more supportive than 2K in that aspect. If you're on PC, just hang out and keep an eye on Nexusmods and LynchReborn on Twitter.

@@ezanderson8834 you’re not factoring that 3D wrestling gaming was still at its inception. The first one came in 1998 wwf warzone. By the time no mercy came out we actually had a good amount of matches. The only thing we were truly missing from the product at the time was hell in a cell & tables. No mercy literally pushed the 64 to its limit.. we’re in 2023 on 4 gaming generations better. No excuse to have less match types than no mercy. Lol omg don’t get me started on stadium stampede. Easily the worst battle royale I’ve seen. It’s a complete disconnect from the core gameplay. There’s literally no wrestling. Just a bunch of running & strike spamming. Plus it’s filled with over 90 percent bots.. and the reason you can invite because it’s a solo experience. If you could invite you could just team on solo players and that’s not fair. What they could’ve done is make a duos or trios mode but that still wouldn’t compensate for the terrible non skilled gameplay the mode has to offer

Your point outs are valid but in Yuke's defense, its their first wrestling game since WWE 13, they lost their assets to 2K due to the license loss and had to rebuild from scratch for AEW so its basically exactly like WWF Attitude and No Mercy and WrestleMania 2000. Creation is there but limited AF.

That's not correct. Yukes (the developers) were making the games up until 2K19. ThqNordic and THQ are not the same company. The latter was the publishers of the WWE games until WWE 13. The former does not have all of the same staff as the original.

So you’re comparing aew to 2 wrestling games that came out in 1999. Wow dude !! Gaming has evolved so much in those 24 years. There’s over 2 decades worth of wrestling game templates to follow & all they came up with was 7 match types, a boring story mode & the worst creation suite ever after 3-4 years of development. There is no excuse for that at all !

With Omega at the helm and him being a huge gamer , I assumed the AEW CAW options would be super awesome ! I guess I was wrong . I almost bought an updated system just for this game too . Because all I care to play are wrestling games . And the CAW is my favorite feature of wrestling games besides gameplay , but its neck and neck almost . I'm glad I saw this video first !!!!! I would have been extremely disappointed . I hear the gameplay is cool though .

Unfortunately, the creation tools are very weak at the moment. But keep an eye on this game. It does have good gameplay, they just need to build on it (roster, CAW options, match options). Despite all the 'game is dead' videos - they're still doing steady patches, pushing the game on tv, and there's rumors of season 2 content. Hopefully that means more than just paid roster DLC, but until somebody goes on record it's just hope and speculation.

I think the biggest problem here is we've all been spoilt rotten with the WWE 2k games and let's be honest the options available in the WWE games creation suite is insanely good, yes I no it has its issues to but when you go back to a 2k game to create wrestlers arenas championships move sets it always feels like you are only limited by your imagination whereas AEW feels like your limited because you are I honestly haven't touched it since launch and probably won't again I went back to the WWE games or no mercy on the good old N64

No Mercy is 4life. Right now Fight Forever has a double-problem of having a limited roster AND limited creation tools to supplement compared to 2K games. Not sure if you saw the recent Season 2 preview pic on the AEW Games twitter but it does hint that they're going to add more CAW attires and options. How much and how soon is another story. You might wanna give it like 6 months and check to see if they've added anything interesting.

They give mixed messages because the pre-launch FAQ said they don't but the day after that Zyddie said they do. Basically, they don't support it in the sense of offering modding tools or have like an in-game mod workshop thing. But they do host and moderate two modding forums in the official AEW Games Discord - one for Modding Discussion and another for Modding Promotion. So, we can do whatever we want as long as we figure it out (which already covers everything from making characters and arenas to changing options and match types). My big concern would be that if they supported it on a higher level they might also be liable to moderate it - which would mean no WWE/NJPW/etc. content and that would effectively kill it. I think what we have is a pretty fair system.

I wanted to like this game but I regret even buying it I'm never touching it again, disappointed with Yukes. Not only the Caw is disappointing the gameplay is pretty bad too.matches are too short I beat a guy with just a punch ect. AEW fight forever is trash also more freedom for Caw and stats are nice not everyone has the time to unlock stats for every single stats for CAWs. Too bad I bought the game on playstion and can't get a refund.
